Pakistans next coach...........

So the shortlist for the next Pakistan coach is as follows. My comments at the side of the candidates.

Dean Jones – Talks a good game, but what experience does he actually have?
Dermot reeve – His off the field antics aren’t what is required by Pakistan. Reeve was a very thoughtful and innovative captain, but does that make a good coach?
Aqib Javed – knows the set up and players. Well respected?
Ijaz Ahmed – joke!
Sabih Azhar – don’t know much about him to comment

Must admit I was wanting a foreign coach at the start of the process, but if this is the short-list the pcb has come up with, I’d rather stay local and probably give it to Aqib or Sabih (highly rated by some ex-pak players as a coach!!).

Overall, a short-list that doesn’t exactly get the mouth watering!!!

Why not someone like Micky Arthur or Dav Whatmore? We need someone to handle the egos from PCB and the team and that shortlist is a bunch of yes men with perhaps Jones but he has no experience.

Apparently 12 foreign coaches applied, would be interesting to know who the other 9 were..... Agreed about the egos, whatmore would have been ideal!!

i hope this doesn't lead this thread in a bad direction but how do you think dean jones would be received after his "terrorist" comment a few years ago

According to a source, Ejazz Butt will not get an extension to his contract which expires early october. Taking that into account, Pcb will not be too inclined to select a 'Yes' man, contrary to what some posters think here.
DJ out of the 5 seems the best option since he wont tolerate any nonsuence.

rich1uk,

You have a point. I dont think the pakistan will hold that against him, hes apologised so its all in the past.... however, will the pakistani public see it that way? think it'll be a 50/50 spilt... Also, i personally think hes using this role as a stepping stone to coaching, so he can get an IPL contract somewhere.... I'd rather paks stick to a pakistani....

Take your point hamza. But the guy is hardly a role model when talking about "nonesense"!!!... For me hes too outspoken, arrogant and impatient... He wouldnt last more than a few months.

Butt will go after couple of weeks and that hopefully will end the darkness surrounding Pakistan.Rumours exist that National Bank of Pakistan's President will take over and he has shown outstanding leadership qualities ever since he took over the reins of the Bank.

I don't think a foreigner should get involved until the recent spate of discrimination and attacks on religious minorities changes. Saying politics (in this case the politics of extremist murdering loons) has nothing to do with sport is naive - see former SA and current Zimbabwe.
