Microsoft...the Man City/PSG of Gaming

https://www.t3.com/news/no-the-xbox-series-x-and-bethesda-deal-is-not-good-for-gamers-and-heres-why

If you know you know lads, the title is self explanatory, as a gamer and a lover of football, I couldn't help but draw the parallel between Microsoft "pulling a Man City/PSG/Chelsea" and artificially becoming "great" to match Sony and the PS5.

Not through hard work, inovation, vision etc..but through sheer financial, juicing. Lol🤦🏿‍♂️

Thoughts?

Sony has been buying up and signing companies to exclusives for a long time. They didn't get big because they made all them by themselves.

EA has been doing much the same.

Microsoft has been doing much the same as well.

The comparison to City or PSG is idiotic.

The article writer sounds like a whiney 81tch

PlayStation currently gets the majority of exclusivity and content before other platforms on other games. Nothing wrong with Xbox countering that.

Id much rather it was open to all but PlayStation have been benefiting from this the most in recent times.

Mate...Sony are where they are solely off of their first party exclusives from their studios, Microsoft knows this and couldn't compete with this and therefore flexed their vastly superior financial muscles, PSG/Man City are where they are off of pure billionaire financial muscle..the comparison is quite apt..don't blame me if you're too dense to see it

This is some old news.. in fact I put a post up about it when it happened on the games forum..

I think you will probably see the ability to subscribe to Microsoft games pass end up on the ps5 to be honest.

Ditto.

It’s a very disingenuous op, all the platforms have been sweeping up studios for exclusive content. I dislike it with a passion but it’s not a Microsoft only thing by any means and game pass is much more likely to be cross platform than some of the alternatives.

------------------------------------------------------ho----------------
How is it "disingenuous"? Sony has been slaying Microsoft by virtue of their unparalleled first party line up... Microsoft's response is to literally juice the system by buying up one of the largest AAA studios out there and in one shot becoming artificially on par with Sony from an exclusivity standpoint...NOT by getting gud as they say lol...by simply being richer than everyone else! How can you not see that?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because Microsoft are only doing what Sony have done themselves for the past few years.

I don’t like anyone doing it, you can’t have a go at one and not the other when it’s the same behaviour though.

Don’t underestimate Amazon and google in this space either.

The direction of travel is away from console exclusive for those companies (and Microsoft). I’d be very surprised if this wasn’t the last generation of the traditional consoles.

I think a lot of you are missing the differentiation between a first party studio and/or IP and the third party acquisition the OP has referred to insofar as Microsoft is concerned.

Some would argue that, given MS's contextually late arrival to the party, it has not had the liberty of bringing forth nostalgic titles from generations past or indeed the time to build up such a catalogue like Sony and Nintendo.

However, I would argue that, over that same period, Sony and its first parties have brought more and - importantly - better original IPs to the table than MS.

Further, I think there's an argument that Sony's acquisitions are born of organic growth from its gaming division - which heads-up the lion's share of the parent's financial muscle - whereas MS's comes from sources outside of the gaming 'realm'. In fact, I think xBox is (or at least was) suffers quite significant losses on a standalone basis; losses that, in theory, should render a $7.5bn acquisition completely out of the question.

In short, PS props up Sony; xBox is itself propped up by MS

Theres a reason Microsoft have moved all their games to PC in recent times tbh.

I reckon they would be just as happy to do away with the consoles and offer subscriptions style passes on PC/PS

Everyone knows Nintendo has the best first party games anyway
