Forest v Canaries Match Thread:1900

1900 hrs K.O!

This lot are on a roll and have been something of a bogey team for the reds in recent years, when they've not been in the Prem' that is.

Interesting photo of Lyle Taylor playing in the away fixture against Norwich, because we're unlikely to see him on the pitch tomorrow. This is the game in which Antony Knockaert scored a goal, we probably won't see that tomorrow either.

This lot are making a full-on charge for the title and in stupendous form unfortunately. Haven't lost since Swansea pumped them for two, either side of half time, in early February.

Unfortunately there is more chance of the discovery of Stilton on the Moon, and getting knocked off your bike by a low flying speeding pig, than getting a result tomorrow. Norwich haven't scored 4 since beating Stoke 4-1 on the 13th Feb'. Hopefully we concede less than that.

I'm in a zoom meeting tomorrow so will look in later on.

1 shot on target and 34% possession.

Thankfully I stayed in bed for this one. This is a really poor Forest team. Only McKenna and possibly Garner would be a starter in a promotion chasing side. Ameobi a sub maybe.

An untried Blackett and Freeman partnership. Figs untouchable. Baffling from CH.

Forget promotion for at least 2-3 years. We are miles off even challenging for a PO spot. We are a lower mid-table team that is incapable of beating a top six side. I’m not paying for iFollow to watch that.

I got into basketball last year. Anything to
ease the pain. I chose the 76ers (year born) and i have a mate from Philly.

What a choice! So weird to watch a winning team full of stars! A team at the top of the table also. If only I could change my football team...

You should have been born in 1967 like me....I was the perfect age to watch Forest from 1975 onwards....although I was a little too young to appreciate just what was unfolding before my young eyes

I thought regular trips to Wembley and winning European Cups was just the norm back then

Same here Rev. I was born mid sixties and lived through those iconic times when Clough’s forest were so popular they were on TV adverts, Dunne & Co. And shredded wheat as well.
You only realise just how special it all was when you look back on it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And the rivalry with Liverpool, we put a spanner in their works, I remember it well. They called us, ‘that team”. We were the darlings of the football world.

Funny, but I still have a real detest for Liverpool, because they were out man in rivals for 5 years during our heyday - I disliked them more than Derby

But to be honest, the dislike dormDerby has become more intense over the years, back then, it wasn’t a real hatred like it is now, in fact they weren’t even our rivals back in the day

It’s only over the last 20-30 years that it’s become more of an intense rivalry, whereas back in the mid/late 80’s early 80’s, Liverpool were our man in rivals

My thoughts the morning after the night before (now I've calmed down a bit)

We all should refrain from judging the team based on their latest performance. A few weeks ago (after beating Blackburn then Rotherham I think) people were talking about the possibility of the playoffs. Now we are bound for relegation and worse.

I've been thinking about how we compare now with last season.

Last season our best back five was probably
Samba, Cash, Figs, Worrall, Ribs. Now it is
Samba, Christie, Worrall, McKenna, Ribs. Christie is a bit of a downgrade, Samba and Ribs have had a slight dip in form. McKenna is an upgrade. But we have only conceded 37 goals. Only four Championship teams have a better record.

So the back five is not too bad in comparison. What about defensive midfield. Last season the best pairing was Watson and Sow; this season it is probably Cafu and Garner. I think our DMs play differently this season to last. Both Cafu and Garner like to get forward more than Watson and Sow did. But like last night we miss more defensive minded DMs

Last season our best attacking midfield trio was Lolley, Silva, Ameobi. Two are still here but have had a dip if form and Silva has been replaced by Krovinovic, but we also have Knockaert who would be one of the three when fit. I think Krov is an upgrade on Silva, although not as good technically so Knockaert, Krov, Ameobi is an upgrade on last seasons trio.

Finally striker. Grabban was obviously our first choice and one of the best in the division up until Christmas. He was backed up by Guerrero. This season we have three. Grabban's form has dropped off a cliff since last season unfortunately and in my opinion is getting starts because of his past record. I think Taylor should be first pick. But he has not performed well when on the pitch.

So the players not in the team from last season: Cash, Figs, Watson, Sow, and Silva have been replaced by Christie, McKenna, Cafu, Krov, and Garner. The five who have come in are decent players and we can add Knockaert and Taylor. On paper I dont think the starting eleven are far off last season eleven; but they may be a bit more unbalanced and crucially we are not scoring enough which is why CH plays a defensive game.

We will be in the Championship next season and if we can add a bit more creativity (Brennan?) a bit more pace (Mighten?) and more goals ( £ ) but not much needs to be done on the pitch to have a useful team.

Let's be patient, and thanks for reading.

The problem is that you can't have one recruitment strategy for Forest & Olympiacos. Marinakis needs to sort out Vrentzos who doesn't know what he's supposed to be doing.
The loss of form last year wasn't properly analysed; Sow injured, Lolley & Brabban both injured and out of form, Cash Silva sold, Watson left. It was all predictable and compounded by bringing back Jack Colback who had done nothing for 12 months apart from drawing 40k a week. Oh and receipt more hopeless players who didn't have a hope in hell of competing in the championship. What was less predictable was the loss of form of Figs & Samba.
Lolley is out for the season with a pulled hamstring from what I heard last night.
The only positive development is Marinakis converting £20M of loans into equity, so at least he isn't lumbering the club with the debt from his CEO's mismanagement.

A perfect example of mismanagement is selling Walker to Coventry and buying the invisible Fouad Bachirou who has managed 32 minutes on the pitch.
We have the highest wage bill ever in our history at £39M p/a!
Assuming that we survive this season most of the present match day squad are either loanees or out of contract at the end of the season.

So the club will be starting from scratch again. From the articles being written by Tails for the Athletic either Mighten or Worrall are likely to be sold over the summer.

If either of them have any ambition to play at a higher level, they’ll both be off ASAP - this Club is toxic - has been for the past 25 years

You can’t possibly compete in this division when after 37 games own goals is the joint top scorer with Taylor, who don’t forget got 2 in 1 game. I doubt there is a team in the EFL who top scorer has four goals or fewer. That stat alone highlights our problems, the club is similar to Grabban, shows up once in a while, flatters to deceive and consistently under performs, the polar opposite to last season.

It is seriously laughable....beyond the point of criminal..it’s laughable - I cannot remember anytime ever that those stats have been so appalling woeful

4 goals and joint top scorer is own goals

At the end of last season we had a striker who had scored twenty goals. We signed another striker who had also scored twenty goals.

Hands up anybody who posted that we would have a problem scoring goals.

Hands up anyone who said we’d be in a relegation scrap.
