OK job done. But at home against SM I ecpected s few more goals. Maybe I am being unfair and SM have improved. I can't see anything from this result to give a clue about how good the England team are or to inspire the fans.

5 or 15, doesn’t matter, England will be in the top 2 in this group regardless and will qualify for the World Cup.
We could have put 25 past San Marino, but we still wouldn’t have known more about the team as the opposition are the worst on the planet. Therefore winning and no injuries is all that was needed.

That's the problem with playing the likes of SM. All you can hope for is an 'as expected'. Agree it's time to stick the minnows like San Marino, Andorra and Scotland in their own group.

There should be a group or two with the lesser ranked teams in. The winner(s) of these groups can then qualify for a play-off with 2nd/3rd place teams from the other European qualifying groups.
This would be better for all concerned. The 'minnows' have more competitive Football, with a small chance of getting to a World Cup and the strong nations don't have to play a team that would get beaten by a league 2 side.

In all fairness those minnows have won just as much as you have in the last 50 years

I don’t remember San Marino winning Le Tournoi

The San Marino goal was peppered with shots, but the keeper probably had the best performance in his career as he stopped 10 shots on goal. It could have been 15-0.
But NO, San Marino have not improved, they are 210th of the FIFA ranking list out of 210 countries
In fact, it should be a considered a very poor result from England to only score 5 goals.

definitely agree with that. Had 32 shots on goal with half of those on target. Some of the finishing was absolutely woeful. Should have won by 8 or more

Not really a good game to judge how good the players are as I'm not sure Southgate would consider playing the likes of Coady, Calvert-Lewin, Lingard etc if coming up against a good/top nation.
It was just a fixture to fulfill really, not much either side can take from it in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly, it’s like a 3rd round FA cup game against a non league no hoper. You just have to get the job done as you are going to be praised (quite rightly) if you tear them a new one anyway.
Get in, get out, no injuries - luvvly jubbly
