ooc I did my cruciate ligament when I was sixteen and was out for nearly a year. Then a week after I got back I tore the cartilage. That put me out for another year and it was eight months before I could walk without crutches. A strained cartilage can be sorted in a few weeks,. If it's just come a bit loose from the bone it can be a coyple of months but if the synovial membrane has broken and the cartilage has actually torn it can take years and some people never recover. Twenty years ago a torn cartilage was a definite career killer so I suppose we should be grateful that with modern surgical techniques and advanced therapeutic approaches to rehabilitation Stuart will get back to fitness and may even play this season.
There really are a myriad of possible injuries to the joints but journalists tend to lump them all together and say ligament damage or cartilage damage which could be anything from a little stretch to a catastrophic collapse.

They are graded as they are very different and often difficult to diagnose properly until the knee is opened up.
Owen Hargreave's Knee ligament injury kept him out for over 3 years!

Sadly we better plan for life without Stu. He could be one of those guys who oft gets injured and who knows if he will ever get back to the level of play. And to heap on the misery ...what's to say chungy will get back to his level. He wasn't up to par after being knackered towards the end of last season.
Can anyone name a player who came back from a double fracture to be as good as he was before? I can't think of one off the top of my head.
