We need to face an uncomfortable truth. There’s only so much a manager can do. Jose and Ancelotti are 2 of the best managers the game has ever seen, but the Spurs and Everton squads just aren’t good enough.
We can hark back to the Poch heydays as much as we want but the truth is, that team had better and more consistent players in it.
Toby and Jan at their peaks - far better than what we put in defence now
Walker far far better than any RB we have now
Mousa Dembele much better than any of our CMs
A peak Eriksen far better than Ndombele or lo celso
Peak Dele way better than Lucas/Lamela/Bergwijn
You get the picture.....in fact only Reguillon and Hojbjerg would replace their equivalents from that team
The manager can only do so much. If you think getting in Nagelsmann or whoever will instantly take us back 5 years....you’re deluded

They are not drilled, there are no patterns of forward play, there is no shape or discipline.

That's the one thing made me sway against Jose. Like I said, I am more a club fan, and not manager fan.
But from after the Liverpool game, I noticed that our players don't look like they had any coaching done, any tactics passed on and don't look like DRILLED.
When you looked at Spurs under Poch in that 2015-17 period, each player knew their role, each player knew what position/tactic of the team was, and they looked like they were coached to the 100th degree.
This team looks like a mess, and players are trying to produce a result but don't have that coaching to know what system or even what role each should play?
Look at Reggie. He goes forward, runs like towards the front players, then suddenly he is looking back? This was a guy who constantly went forward and took on the fullbacks.
I could be wrong of course, but at least, I am not the only person to think this club looks far from being coached.

I agree with this in the main. The work done looks to be about team shape, so the focus being on where players are when we do not have the ball. Also, the quick counter attack, so basically a tactic literally involving 2 or 3 players and 3 or 4 passes.
Beyond that we have really lacked the ability to control games and open up defences with invention.
I would say that things have improved. We have been less passive, more aggressive in the press and a little bit more daring BUT i could not describe our style. Our approach and our team selections seems to change wildly from game to game.
After 18 months in charge this is simply not good enough.
The more i think about it the more i think a big reset is needed. Put together a young team which can develop together with a modern progressive manager to build for the future - GK, RB, CB, CM, RW all needed and if Kane goes (although ANOTHER ankle injury really might make possible buyers think twice) then a new striker.
Move on from the many who have not contributed enough over the last few seasons or take their chances to really prove their qualities. ...i can readily think of 10 players

Totally agree with Ace, there literally is no shape or style whatsoever. It’s just shove Harry Kane up top and hope he digs us out of a hole, in which he does 90% of the time, then our dog s^* defence lets us down time and time again. Mourinho doesn’t have a clue who his best team is and he chops that defence around more than I have had hot dinners, which goes to show after 1.5 years at this club, he hasn’t got a f** clue what his best team is. A mismatch bunch of tactics relying on 1 player to deliver the goods and trying to shut up shop every single game. It’s got that bad, that I’m refusing to watch spurs now. Didn’t watch a minute of the Everton game yesterday and chances are, I’ll probably give the cup final a miss too. It’s completely pointless watching us get humiliated in another cup final. I’m actually more looking forward to the City v Chelsea fa cup game later. I have no loyalties or frustrations that come with watching Spurs. I can watch and enjoy the game in peace. Until Mourinho is gone, I won’t be watching this lot anymore.

Kane will probably be out with his ankle injury. We won’t have a hope in hell of beating City. The man literally bails us out in the majority of our games.

City have just been beaten by Leeds and Chelsea in consecutive games (domestically), Jose might be smelling blood. As much as I detest him and want him sacked, I think there’s room to win next weekends final and still have him removed from his job in the summer, so I’m not giving up on that glimmer of silverware til that game is over.

you're running a fine line there ace. you better pray that doesn't save his job. no matter how you win he will claim a jose masterclass.

Ace, with our defence we are not winning Sundays game, not a chance. You are setting yourself up for a massive disappointment mate if you think the outcome will be anything other than a city win. Their name is already engraved on the trophy, we all know how this works out with Spurs. We are not chelsea, they actually have the ability to win big matches and win trophies. City will be desperate to win that. 3 or 4-0 City.

Mourinho has to go, but the problems run deeper. Lots of the playing staff are the same ones that let Poch down towards the end, and are not up to it. So that’s manager and some players. Then the problems run deeper than that, because the brittle mentality and lack of cojones should have on paper been the one thing that Mourinho sorted out, and we are just as bad as ever. Poison seeped deep in the root of the club.
Levy has completely facked up with the poch -> Mourinho situation and it has to be rectified properly this summer. Two poor managerial appointments in a row would be an absolute disaster

Oh I agree chronic. It’s not as simple as let’s sack Mourinho and we will be great next season. The whole defence is a comical shambles and needs a complete rebuild from goal keeper to centre back, but Jose 100% has to go. He isn’t getting the best out of the players at his disposal. He’s alienating far too many players and his decision making is mind boggling
