Just a thought about the threatened ban on players from the so-called Big Six and wondering what sort of squad might be assembled in that event. Turns out, it's not too shabby.
Goalkeepers:
Pickford, Pope, Heaton/Darlow
Defenders:
Bertrand, Cresswell, Cash, Godfrey, Mason-Holgate, Keane,(Ben) White, Justin (when fit)
Midfield:
Grealish, Maddison, (Kalvin) Phillips, Rice, Ward-Prowse, Sancho, Bellingham, Eze, (Harvey) Barnes when fit.
Strikers:
Antonio, Bamford, Calvert-Lewin, Ings, Watkins, (Calum) Wilson. Might even be able to tempt Vardy back in times of national crisis!
Forgive me if I have omitted one or two possible candidates. (I just discovered I had left Declan Rice out!)
If Southgate (not to mention the FA) want to make a statement in the forthcoming Euros that the maintenance of the existing structure is more important than how England perform in that competition, that might be one practical way of doing it.
No doubt going forward more emerging talent will want to stake a claim. There may also be one or two who decide a move away from a big six club is preferable to a sterile Super League.
England without Big Six players

That defence would be obliterated.

Fair comment. I am no big fan of Tyrone Mings in any event. Neither are a few of my Villa supporting mates!

Coady should be considered

Think Craig Dawson has had a very good year for West Ham, also. Might be an outside shout in a position we wouldn't be stocked in!
Also Ezri Konsa, who's having a standout season.

True. Should have included him; he's probably part of the squad anyway. Probably mitigate the defence getting obliterated.

Agreed on both. Konsa probably should get in before Mings. Wasn't sure about his eligibility though.

Pretty sure he's played for England youth sides, but not 100% on that!

Said elsewhere Phillips Bellingham midfield would be fun to see

Like always, I think England’s “too” players are over hyped and overrated. I think we’re still a very average side.
Sterling rarely has a good game for England despite his goals, Rashford hasn’t fired for us yet and Mount is just another one of those decent midfielders that the media seem to dive on because he’s English!
Whilst that team isn’t world class, nor is our first choice, so I’d rather we drop them all and see. How we can do with hungry players with a point to prove.
Sancho and Bellingham would be two key talents in this team.

Pretty sure Antonio has declared for Jamaica before the last international break.

I think what this thread demonstrates is there is quality outside the greedy six. Particularly when it comes to English qualified players
