Youth, Mellon and European greed

Seems the rumours going about the city just now is that Mellon is not wanting to play any promising youngsters and the move to Doncaster could be on......

For me, all this sending youngsters out on loan is the only way they will get proper game time. When the think tank came out and said scrap reserve team football and replace with the Under 21s league that was the beginning of the downfall. Must stick two under 21s on match day benches? Honestly, who thinks these structures will develop players?

When the reserve leagues were in place you had first-teamers coming back from injuries getting match fitness. Fringe players of the first team busting a gut to get back in the first-team picture. Promising youngsters playing in these games with seasoned pros none of this same age rubbish. Reserve games played at the actual football stadium of the clubs involved, no St Andrews playing field or Whitton Park.


As for the European scene what was wrong with the home and away ties in knock-out competition? Going to "Champions League & Europa League" just made it boring and not a surprise the so-called big clubs want to form a "super league". The European Cup, UEFA Cup and Cup Winners Cup were good but not good enough for the big clubs so leagues came in and the same teams got through again and again.
