Who should be exiting the club this summer? I’m going to split them up into 3 groups. Definitely should leave, possibles and loans. Feel free to do the same.
Definite
Phil Jones
Goes without saying. Always injured and not good enough. How he still he has a long term deal is beyond me. If he can somehow put his injury woes behind him I still feel he could do a job for someone. He should do the honourable thing and accept a pay cut if someone does want to sign him.
Andreas Pereira
Again will be hard to shift. He is probably on more money than others are willing to offer him and he’s struggled to get in the team at Lazio so can’t see them keeping him.
Juan Mata
As much for his own sake as much as he is surplus to requirements here. Still decent in possession but doesn’t have the legs for it now. A move to Spain could do him good.
Jesse Lingard
Has done very well at West Ham and we should cash in while his stock is high. Again probably best for all parties that he goes.
Possible
Nemanja Matic
If we do strengthen in midfield I think it’s best if we move Matic on. Can have his uses but he is a bit part player these days and doesn’t have the legs to play regularly. He could still be very good in a lower paced league. Possibly re-unite with Jose in Rome?
David De Gea
I’d keep him at least one more season but with Henderson looking like he’s number 1 now will De Gea be happy to be back up? Can’t see using a different keeper in league and CL next season. Again there is the wage issue. Can’t see many clubs paying close to what he’s on now.
Diogo Dalot
He’s done ok at Milan by all accounts but still hasn’t fully nailed down his place. I would sell if we get a good offer but wouldn’t be against giving him one last shot as competition for AWB next season.
Dan James
I’d probably keep him as he is relatively young and can be useful at times but like Dalot if someone is willing to put in a decent offer we should definitely consider it. If the interest in Sancho is still there and we get him you can’t see much action for James.
Loans
Axel Tuanzebe
It’s been a bit of a waste of a season for him this term. He’s impressed and struggled at times but I feel he has deserved more game time. If a new CB is signed then a PL loan is a must for Axel.
Brandon Williams
A bit like Axel in a way. He has struggled at times but like Axel, Telles, VDB it’s very difficult to play well when you barely play. A few PL clubs have shown interest in the past and if Dalot or we get another RB a loan should be given to him.
James Garner
Has impressed at Forrest on his loan there. A PL loan where he will games should be the next move for him and hopefully ready for our team the year after.
Departures this summer

like i say mate, expect him to go to leicester for about 25 million in the near future.. we should be all over that one

Yeah it looks like it's nearing completion that one.

If we sign Sancho for less than we were willing to offer last season, you'd have to say (still a c@nt either way) Woodward's stance last summer was vindicated.
--------------------------------------
Possibly RR but I don't think it can be underestimated the contribution Sancho could've made this season, not just in terms of the obvious quality he would add on the pitch but signing him could've also given us plenty of opportunity to rest Rashford who I don't think we've managed well at all this season and there are more people involved than just Ole in that.

Id like us to move on the following
Romero, Jones, Lindelof, Matic, Mata, Lingard, Martial
Unlikely I know, but we could really put the funds to good use on a CB, CM and CF.

That said, I thought we picked up a lot of lucky points in the first half of the season: the January table slightly flattered us.

This is true. That's why I don't think we should read too much into our league position and points total this season.
I would expect the number of points gained from losing positions to level out a bit next season in a similar way that our results in the bigger games did this season from last but hopefully the impact of that can be lessened by getting ourselves in more winning positions in the first half of games.

That's a valid point, RS. I suppose where we draw the line will depend on the numbers. If it looks like we avoided over-spending by £50m, then you could argue that we were being realistic about how Covid had deflated the market and it wasn't sustainable to meet Dortmund's demands. If we end up spending almost as much as Dortmund wanted, then it's a far more catastrophic repeat of the Harry Maguire brinkmanship. Obviously, it's quite possible we don't do the deal this summer either.

I think we’d probably have more points, put in better performances and maybe have got out of the group stages ot the group stages of the CL if we’d signed Sancho.
We should have signed Bissouma instead of Donny as well. Neglecting central midfield and right wing has been criminal.

Neglect?! We signed eleven right wingers (with a combined age of 32) last summer!

I didn’t think of that, RR.
