After seeing Villareal celebrate...why do some fans believe Europa league is not a worthy competition when Spurs in our history has never won a higher ranked trophy.
This attitude has added to delusions. Does Harry Kane think that winning Europa league and qualifying to win the Super Cup would not be a worthy Cup double? If we didn't disrespect the Cup so much we might have got and would get more silverware
I for one blame Sky...Champs league is rich, fun and great but it confuses players and fans into thinking participation is greater than winning.
I wish UEFA had stuck with the old format
European Cup
UEFA Cup
Cup Winners Cup.
The brainiacs in Europe have now done full circle and given us stupidly named competitions. It's interesting how they were all so against ESL yet all the European competitions are now leagues.
Arrogance of fans and players...

For me it's not from an arrogant point of view that I don't like it - it's just so much of a risk putting all of your eggs in the Europa basket.
Rightly or wrongly, the OP is right - CL is treated with much more respect than the Europa. When we're in the CL, I can't wait to watch the group stage draw. Europa? I could care less. If that sounds arrogant then so be it, but that's how it is. And I'm guessing it's similar for a lot of the players.
The second point to make is how much of a toll it takes on your domestic season. If we hadn't been it in this season, I think we'd have been more likely to finish top 4. Arsenal put all their eggs in it, the risk being one (or two) bad performances and you're out, and your season is over, as they experienced.
I'm more worried about them having a good season next season because they're not in it than I would be if they were, and I think West Ham and Leicester will have a drop off in league form next season because they're in it (assuming they get decently far).
Us? Might be controversial, but I'd vote for playing the u18's in the qualifying round of the conference league, narrowly losing, and giving it a good cracking domestically next season. As I said, to me it's common sense that we'd have a better season if we did that.

What a nonsensically idea play the U18s and lose. Honestly I give up with out supporters sometimes. Arrogance of the highest order to think Spurs throwing a Conference League match for what? Maybe finish 6th in the League.

EL is not a major trophy. How could it be when non of the teams that win or challenge for their domestic tittle plays in this competition, Unless they screw up CL group stages. FA cup is a more prestigious trophy solely because all the best teams in England participate in it.
I can understand why it can be important to serial trophy dodgers like Spurs and Ole. Non of the top teams gives too sh#ts about it. It’s a second rated trophy for second rated teams.

Well it is only one of two European trophies up for grabs, three if you count the new competition this season. Try telling Villarreal it is second rated competition. I am sure every team in Europe bar, one or two teams would love to win the Europa.

It's competitive European football against teams you don't normally play, what's not to love? I dont get the snobbery.

Always said I don’t get people who look down their noses at any trophy. Especially when they aren’t winning anything.

Yet here you are, struggling to beat second rated teams.

That`s because our modern fanbase think they are above any being in these competitions, despite most of them ever seeing Spurs win a trophy.
I am lucky, have seen Spurs win every competition, bar the CL (made up for by seeing Spurs win other European competitions), in my lifetime, but I don`t turn up my nose at winning the League Cup or taking this new Conference League seriously. I want Spurs to take every competition they are ever in very, very seriously.

what annoys me about how the european competitons are structured is that it is entirely based on maximising revenue and this has the effect of devaluing the prestige and to a degree the eleven of interest.
all these comps are too big. there are so many mismatches in them and it is largely very predictable up to the knock out stage.
Instead of refining these comps. UEFA is making them bigger with even more games adding 6 more games to win the UCL.
They do not care about the quality and competitiveness of it, just the quantum of games and how much TV revenue it will gain.
For.me the UCL is being watered down and devalued. The Europa League will have even less prestige as a consequence esp. if it continues to receive the UCL dropouts, and the Europa conference no one will care about at all.
These could all be great comps in their own right like.they used to be but actually I believe the result will be less interest from fans
