Champions of mediocrity - Belgium

Belgiam go into the Euros as the world’s top ranked team.

Will they be able to win it?

Or will they continue to be champions of mediocrity on international stage?

The French group will be very interesting. Germany are home for all three games and Hungary are home for 2 games so Germany will have an advantage over Portugal and France.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But with three potentially going through, this should only really be a Group of Death for Hungary. Would be very interesting if it was only the top two that qualified.

The Euros was better when it was 16 teams. Top 2 from 4 groups going through.

Have to say after spending time looking into Belgium the last few days that there line up isn't anything special anyway and would argue Martinez actually has them punching.

Meunier and perhaps T. Hazrd the wide mids, meh, not in the same class as those from the best of other years. Two old aged defenders speedsters won't fear at all, Lukaku? Does anybody really think he is one of the best? Hazard, terrible form, Mertens? Meh.

It was. Saying that, I used to like the old World Cup format, which was 24 teams and like the current Euros. When it went to 32, I said that only two going through meant the groups were too predictable, without a shock team sneaking through in third or a top side struggling, just making it and then getting better as the knockouts go on. But the last Euros... letting 24 in already dilutes the quality, then you get teams making it to the knockouts after three draws.

And going on to win the whole thing

I think the world cup is fine with 32. The Euros just doesn’t work with this many. The world cup is gonna get worse when they expand that as well.

We have seen absolute garbage like England achieve their two best world cup finishes since 1966 on the back of not winning many games.

England 90 minute record in 1990 and 2018 is

4 wins 6 draws 4 defeats

I think England will do very well, great attacking talent and options. I just wonder that in having so many class-A+++++ divers in the team it will be create an imbalance in the universe which will cause half the cosmos to spontaneously explode.

That balance will be corrected by the fact that it's coming home.

to which hone though? Will it be a parallel universe created by the imbalance? Is Southgate really thanos in disguise?

True. Ridiculous idea. Russia 2018 was the last proper World Cup for me.

Same. Unless we win one.

Qatar will be interesting from England’s perspective, especially if these cooling systems that are going to be in the stadiums are any good. Having a tournament in before the season has finished could benefit us, where there’s less fatigue compared to the end of a tough season.

Could be said for a lot of countries, in fairness. Hopefully it’ll increase the quality of the tournament because of this.
