Whatever happens to England in the Final I think this has been a superb competition. There have been some marvelous individual and team performances, truly memorable moments, inspiring leadership, high-standard refereeing and a very refreshing approach by most teams who have been prepared to dump the over-cautious approach normally adopted in internationals. I do hope it all flows into the Final - with England winning of course.

England couldn't beat the "minnows"!

Everyone is very exited about England doing well but when I see all the sideways and back passing in the possession based games, I think it is absolute garbage.
When you compare this lot with the players from years ago there is no comparison.
Coaches have taken all the passing and movement and dribbling out of the game and made it so boring.Shankly.,Cloughie etc and all the other great managers must be turning in their graves.
I also think that the standard of the players in the rest of the teams in nowhere near that of years ago.
When I think of the likes of Germany, Spain, Holland and France, the current squads do not compare.

Re Uncle Tom's comments about boring sideways, backwards, possession football I would agree in relation to the Scotland game but in general terms possession is now the main ingredient of modern football at the top level.
I assume his reference to coaches means England's coaches and therefore England's lack of passing, movement and dribbling. I just cannot agree. I have seen plenty of all these (just take Sterling as one player example.)
I also think it is very difficult to compare modern players with those from the past. The game is very different now and has changed radically in many ways. Would Cloughie really be turning in his grave? I'm sure that when he was with Derby he had a notice put up somewhere that said: "Giving the ball away is a crime."
Standout players for me so far have been Sterling, Damsgaard and that Spanish player whose name I forget who ballooned his pen against Italy over the bar.
Anyway, it's all a matter of opinion and what really matters is that England are in the Final!

Think UTC is looking at past Euros with rose tinted glasses. Remember this is a competition that has been won by Greece, Denmark and the Soviet Union. I can remember 4 class teams winning it in over 50 years of watching. The German team of Beckenbauer and Netzer, the Durch with van Basten and Gullitt, The French team with Zidane etc and the Spanish team with Iniesta and Xavi.
The game has moved on and athleticism is now more important. I don't think it any coincidence that the finalists are the two teams with the most pace up front. France should be there but decided in true French style to self destruct.
Whether we win depends on how the referee sees the way Chiellini and Bonucci handle Sterling and Kane. I expect to see a few appeals for penalties. Fortunately we have a defender with real pace in Walker to match the pace of Chiesa but I really don't fancy Pickford in a one on one situation if the Italians can hit us on the break.

I was not remarking just about the euros, but football in general .
When you play the majority of the game in possession in your own half, with the keeper having more possession than any of the forwards it is pretty dire.
I just dont think football should be played like that..
