PiIllock Penalties

PL fans this upcoming season please boo ANY AND ALL players taking a penalty like Sancho/Rashford's last night whether they score or not. Dinking it past/over the sold keeper only looks good when players run up like they're going to smash it then switch it last second as the keeper dives. Stuttering up then stopping to swing ya leg/foot around first to make the keeper move THEN putting it in after he does isn't impressive at all. Because you never "beat" the keeper, you cheated him by conning him into laying down first so you could get a free unopposed kick at the net. What, too scared he might save ya best strike straight up??? MEOOWW.

One movement run-up and shot, no stuttering kicks. It's player's shot vs keeper's save and they need to cut all the BS out of penalty taking and get back to that. If rules/managers hadn't let it go so far already then maybe Rashford/Sancho would have taken their penalties properly and poor Saka wouldn't have had Rashford's BAD HABIT "Run on the spot too close to the ball" start around him to pick up. Poor kid probably would have scored if he'd run up properly but copying Rashford's beginning had his feet all wrong taking his shot.

This is SOUTHGATE'S fault at the end of the day. Because had he done his job properly preparing the players then there's no way in hell that Rashford or Sancho dare to even think about trying to take those wiseass pens because they'd have been severely warned not to and drilled at taking proper penalties all week too. Since nobody above the players is stamping out this practice, it's up to fans to make sure no England player ever dares do that again. Resounding boos in PL stadiums any time it's done outside of a complete thrashing, should put pay to players trying it when it really matters to the result.

I don't advocate booing players whatever the context. What if Saka took a pen for us. Do you really think that booing him will help his confidence?

Saka just got his run up a bit wrong, he did actually try to approach and strike in the one movement, it was running on the spot to begin that messed his feet up. That's not what I'm on about, I'm talking about the deliberate stuttering of runs up to and faking shooting of, the ball. As both Rashford and Sancho attempted to do. Not missing "a pen" but trying to even take "THAT pen." I couldn't give a rats ass about building anybody's confidence to take penalties that way. It's bloody stupid and unnecessarily risky. Sure if ya 3 or 4 nil up and get a pen then by all means risk being a showboating ps taker who rubs it in with the cheeky pen but YOU DON'T pull that sh !t when a game's on the line let alone in an international cup final shootout.

It's not even about the miss (hence I said boo them score or not) it's about that way of taking a pen being a very bad one which should never ever be accepted by fans when the outcome of the penalty matters. It's a poor man's version of the true keeper dupe anyway and given how risky it is to try it's actually REALLY disrespectful of the back breaking effort your team has just put in to get to that point. The fact that any player sees it as a bonified pen taking strategy as opposed to just a "once in while" showboat move for big wins, is a problem which needs comprehensively addressing by fans if not the rules themselves. Unless you like watching your players blow your team's chances by being stupid that is.

For me it's the approach a penalty striker takes when they do not have the confidence to hit a ball into a corner or in the the roof of the net.

Kane smashed it into the corner and the massive keeper had no chance despite going the right way. Maguire smashed it in to the roof.

Rashfords penalty seriously annoyed me as we were up at that stage. You just need to hit the target with some decisiveness and precision. Back you ability to be accurate rather than relying on the keeper going the wrong way. The lad has such great technique when striking the ball yet he felt the need to dance up to the ball and roll it goalwards.

In that moment it was 100% the wrong approach. It handed the momentum back to them, they scored again and we were always catching up from then and that added pressure, pressure Saka and Sancho could not handle.

I question Saka's choice as 5th taker, but ultimately it was Rashford's failure to convert that changed everything and the way he did it was just idiotic at that stage.
