Three lads who were brilliant all summer, had the courage to step up and take a pen, when the stakes were high. They deserve support & backing not the vile racist abuse they’ve had since last night. If you abuse anyone on social media you’re not an England fan and we don’t want you.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why Twatter is not deploying a moderation bot, even if it just to stop racist comments. I cant be that hard condsidering JA606 is able to do it with a banned word list. Surely Twatter can come up with something more sophisticated with all the resources they have. I really dont understand why they go through all the hassle and bad publicity of deleting them after they have been posted. Just prevent it from ever being posted in the first place. And governments need to push for this. Ban Twatter until they have their shiiiit in order.

Chartlotte Nichols, the MP for Warrington North complained to Instagram on Sunday about a user who'd posted 'IT'S DEPORTATION TIME' next to a Nigerian flag and a back arrow. She said within three minutes she got an automated reply saying that the post had been reviewed by their systems and didn't go against community guidelines, and her best bet was muting that user if she didn't like their content.
They're not really trying here, are they?

I reported a child bullying video to facebook once, got a reply saying it was grand. Feck them all.

Twitter will always be the voice of trump to me.
That's enough for me to avoid it . Too much damage was done before they finally took action.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Twitter is one of the most left wing media platforms around. Giving it a right wing association cos Trump was banned from it makes no sense tbh.

Can someone explain to this old codger, who doesn't do Soshull Meeja, why it is anonymous?
Charliexxx09 wouldn't dare post such vile comments if, say, it had to be labelled as from Charlie Fox of Warrington.
Apologies to any and all genuine Charlie Fox's out there
Anybody know why there is such an emphasis on anonymity?

There's a good article here on the growth of social media being related to the Section 230 law in America - https://www.wired.co.uk/article/section-230-communications-decency-act
The nub of it is that the tech companies don't have to moderate what their users post (as then they'd be liable) but retain the right to remove content if they want to. If they're made accountable for who uses their services or what they write they'll be liable for massive law suits and they'll just shut up shop. The lack of accountability and ease of access (no hassle to sign up) fuelled their massive growth.
There are also massive concerns about misuse of data, concerns that would be exacerbated if they had your address, passport number National Insurance number of whatever

Thats why governments need to step up and change laws. I dont need Facetwat, Twatter and Instatwat to be liable for what morons post, but they can still moderate racist content. All they have to do is change their T&Cs to say that racist content will be moderated, dont like it, fack off. Governments need to step up. China can do it, so why not the western world. If they are genuinly outraged by racism they wouldnt have to think 2 seconds about it.

Yeah, I think the key to it is to ensure there are consequences for posts that breach laws. Just banning accounts and deleting posts isn't enough.
The data security concerns are massive though, I get that. One approach would be a central location (paid for by the tech companies) where your identity is stored but isn't visible to them, but links to your social media accounts. Then if laws are broken you're traceable by the authorities (who know your identity anyway).
Still raises massive data security questions though, and I can't imagine there's an appetite anywhere for such a massive undertaking.
