Bertrand

So he’s signed.

Not sure what to make of this signing to be honest. If all of our fullbacks were fit and staying would he ever get a look in?

This to me feels like Rodgers wants Castagne on the right and until Justin is fit that’s not possible without Luke Thomas playing every game.

I know Thomas is still young but for me we should be really looking to develop him over the coming season. He looks the real deal.

If all players were fit we’d now have 5 players vying for the full back spots. Is it really possible to keep them all happy? This leaves me asking:

Will Periera ever come back (please say yes)
Are we worried Justin won’t?
Is somebody leaving?
Does Rodgers see Justin playing central at any point?
Will Bertrand just be a squad player for rotation?

Odd one.

In other news, did anyone think he looked a little porky and we’ll in need of pre-season training?

Leicester going about their business quietly, quickly and efficiently again.

Bertrand is a dependable Champions league winning player that played under Rodgers during his Chelsea youth days, so knows his well.

Bertrand is a pretty stable squad option, and could see him working fairly well as a LCB in a back three tbh.

Yes, there are two, possible explanations here.

1. The lack of us signing a RW might be an indication that BR is going to stick with a back three. Bertrand can play on the left side of a back three as well as LB

2. JJ, TC and RP are all more comfortable at right back, which means BR may feel he wants another option at LB. Thomas isn't ready to carry that position on his own so this is good squad depth. The question will be what happens, though, if we ever get everyone fit. Three very high quality RB's for one position. Not that it is something that will worry us in the short term as we'll probably start the season with Castagne out alongside the Justin as a long term absentee
