Apologies, I know this topic has been covered on articles for the past few months or more but I just wanted to gauge peoples’ opinions on this position for us.
I think we all agree that we need one but it looks unlikely to happen this window. I’ve seen some say that perhaps if we bolster our defence with Varane for example then we might not need to protect the back four as much as we have and therefore finally move away from McFred.
I have two questions for you:
For those that watch more football than I do, from the continent and domestically, who are the players that you would want let’s say January or next Summer as a big signing or even if it’s a young player but clearly mustard?
Second, for this summer (or another window) would you be willing to sell Martial and possibly pay some cash on top (if needed) to secure a CDM of the quality that we should be aiming for?
Personally, I would (almost) happily sell Martial to enable getting a top CDM. Especially since Greenwood’s development and Sancho’s imminent arrival.

I was actually just thinking about the second question. I think it could be a good idea to sell Martial and get in a CDM. Martial does have talent but has been at United for many years now and is never likely to develop the consistency he's so far lacked. We have plenty of other options and even Diallo could move ahead of him in the pecking order this year

Yeah mate. He’s similar to Pogba in that way but Pogba has been more consistent than Tony. I mean if both of them consistently smashed it for us, 8 or 9 out of 10 every week my god that would be devastating.

Yeah that's it. Not a question of talent but just of consistency and having the desire and fight to do it every week.

He gave us 35 goals and assists the season before last after being out for 2 months and having the midfield feed him dead through balls. He even won players, player of the year that season as well.
His first season as an 18 year he scored 18 goals and assisted 11 times.
During Joses second season he won the clubs player of the month award 3 times out of 5 and was dropped for no other reason other than the arrival of Sanchez.
He's had a couple of terrible seasons, including last season where he uncharacteristically missed a boat load of sitters.
It's a myth he hasn't shown consistency and selling him would be absolutely counter productive from the view point of trying to establish strength in depth.

It's not a myth. He goes full years of playing rubbish. Do we just keep him in the hope that he fancies it this year, whilst neglecting the CDM role (again)? We could likely fetch a decent fee for him and if we could get about 30-40 million, we should definitely consider selling

I’d keep Martial for another year. Better off trying to sell James, Lingard, Pereira, Matic, Bailly and Dalot.
