Gone to Villa for £25m
A few things:
1. Where the hell did that come from? I hadn’t seen any links or bids placed. Why can’t we operate that smoothly
2. Can’t tell if this is good or bad news - I wasn’t wholly sold on Ings due to his injury record, but he was a realistic option if Kane left. Does this mean Kane is more likely to stay, or we’re just getting more and more screwed?
3. They’ve lost Grealish, but Villa are looking really impressive for this season

why all this waffle about ings and his injury record.
he missed 7 games last season... kane 5
the 19/20 season... 0 games missed... kane 16
the 18/19 season - ings 15 games missed ... kane 17
going by your logic kane should be worth 2 quid and a bag of satsumas
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Last three seasons Ings has scored this many Prem goals
2018/19 - 7
2019/20 - 22
2020/21 - 12
So other than one season where he scored 22, the best other season he has had in the top flight was 12 goals.
Son has equalled or outscored him in every season bar one for the past five years.
Ings is a decent player, but you aint going to get any more goals out of him that what Spurs already have. Sensible decision not to spend £30 million on him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The point is Sandy we currently have no recognised striker. Vinicius has gone. Harry Kane hasn’t even returned to training and let’s be honest, regardless of the situation, he won’t be making the City game. Son isn’t a striker. I don’t give a s** about his goals mate, Son will never be a striker. I love Son but his best position is from out wide, which is where he gets most of his goals from. Going into the season without a recognised striker is a shambles mate sorry. Yes, I totally agree the defence is a must. I have been banging on about the defence for ages but at the moment, this Romero hasn’t officially signed. So, apart from a back up goal keeper, please tell me officially what we have done with the defence ? Apart from sell our best defender that is
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don, do we buy a striker now, with whatever money we have and match Ings deal of 4 years on £150k a week (29 years old), or do we wait to see if we have an extra £150m to spend.
I would have liked Ings but there is no certainty he would have come to us and if we have a much bigger budget then he would not be the best option anyway.
We have no striker right now because Kane has decided to go awol, in breach of his contract.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m very suprised we haven’t gone in for a loan deal for a striker again
Kane or no Kane that would be a safe option
Shame we didn’t renew bales loan and just stick him in front when needed. He would be deadly up front. Not sure he wants to play there but so what! He doesn’t have the legs for the wing anymore
Maybe we will be seeing a lot more of Scarlett than we think….comes across as he has leap frogged parrot already
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But imaging loaning Vini back, and then Kane goes and we could have spent £100m on 2 decent strikers.
It all depends on Kane.

Did anybody actually think the club has changed its ways because Paratici has come in, we start every season with an incomplete squad and it will be the same this season.
We will probably be out of the title race after 6 or 7 games.
There is no wonder Kane is desperate to leave, he has seen this pantomime play out many times before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You expected us to be in the title race.....ah bless!

I'll be very interested to see how much we actually spend in this window. I can't help but feel that the money we've laid on our transfers so far is with an eye on getting shot of Kane. We could well end up with a 0 net spend. Again. That wouldn't be good enough for the overhaul we're after.

So with a Kane sale and other outs, if we spent £200m with a zero net spend that would not be good enough for you

Every team is in a title race before a ball is kicked, obviously Spurs will probably be out of it after no more than 10 games. I bet you said the same about Leicester a few years ago, ah bless indeed.

We need players all over the pitch. A striker to replace Kane will be upwards of 80 million. If we can't shift Dier, Sissoko, Winks, Sanchez etc we'll have to dip our hands in our own pockets. No excuses not to spend a penny this window.

Supposedly they're paying Ings £150k a week, which might have factored into how it played out
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is also 29 and given a 3year +1 deal. Thats a long deal for someone of that age, and with a bit of a injury history.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is good for two seasons at least. Even if he scored 13-15 goals a season and is injured for a month or two it is still a great deal. Very good player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not making a judgment call on whether or not he's worth that. I'm just making the point that Spurs were never going to pay that, so it's all a bit beside the point whether Spurs should've gone for him or not.

Overpay from Villa
Happy we steered clear

The player we should have gone for was Ollie Watkins but when he moved to Villa he said himself he went there as he knew any chance at Spurs would be limited by us having Kane.
May be we're better off without Kane

Scoring goals is not going to be a problem for Spurs even if Kane goes. It is the conceeding of goals that will be the bigger problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dont worry, you are good at conceding goals as well
