How far would you extend the ban?

https://www.leedsunited.com/news/community/28476/premier-league-introduces-league-wide-bans-to-tackle-discrimination

Without a doubt, the premier league are right to bring in bans across the shop for people found to abuse others in any way shape or form either in real life or virtually but should they be for life, players are expected to go on courses (e.g. Kiko) and after serving a short ban and paying a fine, can return to playing, I don't know how far this goes but if you are a player it appears that you can use foul and abusive language and as long as you attend the re-education, pay your fine and serve your ban you can return to the fold. In the same circumstances a fan could be permanently banned. Shouldn't the fan have the same opportunities as players or vice versa, if a player is guilty to the same degree as a fan, shouldn't they be permanently banned as well.

It also appears that this measure is aimed at trying to eradicate racism, the game has problems across the board with homophobia, I feel that if a player was to come out and was abused for being openly gay the Premier League would act on it so why don't gay footballers feel able to come out (some lesbian footballers have no such concerns). Would permanent bans ever be used for anything other than abuse due to race?

And what about anti-Semitic chanting sometimes heard at Spurs games (we have a long history of Jewish involvement with our club as well)?

I'm not for permanent bans, unless there is evidence of persistent behaviour.

As much as I loath people who make racist chants I don't see the point of punishment which offers no chance of redemption

I find it odd that, in general, ive found that it seems to be the same people who think that prisons should be more about rehabilitation than punishment are also the same people that seem to think racists should be banned for life without the offer or hope of being allowed back they change.

Its a contradiction I little understand...
