Barcelona in serious trouble

How long can this go on ?

'Negative net worth of 451m euros'

Laporta says the impact of Covid has been calculated at 91m euros (£77m) and the club has a negative net worth of 451m euros (£383m).

"Our salaries represent 103% of the club's total income. That's 20-25% more than our competitors," he says.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta opened by saying:

"The first thing when we arrived at the club was we had to ask for a loan of 80m euro because otherwise the wages would have been impossible to pay.

"At the time the conditions were tough, it would have been impossible and we were not able to manoeuvre.

"So no normality was possible at the time."

Laporta added that if the building work on the club's Nou Camp stadium did not take place then it would not have been possible to open the stadium.

"Some rebuilding was needed to the Camp Nou back in 2019. It was found that some of the building projects was clinical to operate and we started to work on that and we've been doing that work and fortunately enough because we worked diligently we were able to open the stadium.

"It would have been impossible to open the stadium before that."

A final headline from Joan Laporta's press conference.

The Barcelona president says the club's debt is 1.35 billion euros (£1.14bn).

It's a situation he described as "very worrying".

So, when do the authorities step in ? They are obviously going to have to go into administration at this rate.

We have seen it with Leeds, Wigan, Rangers, all have had punishments, handed out. Barcelona are spending more on wages than what they are earning, it's a joke.

News is also emerging that Real Madrid are going the same way, how is this being allowed to happen without any sort of punishment ?

Does anybody have any sympathy towards Barcelona ? Or Real Madrid ? I for one do not, these two clubs have both acted as if they were bigger than the sport for the best part of 25 years now. The bubble was always going to burst for them.

Real Madrid are now going to take La Liga to court over the deal with CVC, a deal that would do wonders for La Liga's other clubs.

These clubs are in a mess, how long do they have before they have sanctions put against them ?

And there is talk of Mbappe going to Madrid !!!! Don't make me laugh, how could they possibly afford him ?

I think the days of the two big Spanish clubs lording over all others is going to come to an abrupt end, and I cannot pretend that I feel sorry for them either.

Please feel free to disagree

Google Florentino Perez for your answer.

But yeah it’s silly how people conflate Barca and Madrid. They aren’t comparable.

No shįt Sherlock. RCD Mallorca will walk La Liga this season, as evidenced by their stunning 1-1 draw this weekend.

Right, what cheese should I have before bed tonight?

People really do need to do some research before they post:-

https://www.football-espana.net/2021/01/27/real-madrid-accounts-reveal-club-in-concerning-e901m-debt

They just sold Varane and are lookinf at selling other players, to balance their accounts, but they are next in line.

Ahh sorry I read your post wrong, thought you meant the figures for Mbappe not Madrid’s finances.
