Arteta has five games to save his job

Arteta claimed he was without nine players after the defeat to Chelsea, with £50m new signing Ben White ruled out with Covid, and there is acknowledgment within the club that he has been working under difficult circumstances.

Arteta also promised that results and performances will improve once players start to return and his new signings find their feet, but things could get worse before they get better with a trip to champions Manchester City to come.

But, following the City game and the first international break in September, Arsenal have games against newly-promoted Norwich City, Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton, before the Premier League breaks again in October.

A failure to demonstrate a significant improvement in those games would see Arteta fighting to save his job and would hugely increase the pressure on his position, particularly as Arsenal could spend more money before the transfer window closes.

Should Arteta ultimately fail to turn Arsenal’s fortunes around, then the club are likely to make former Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte their first choice to replace him.

Conte is out of work after leaving Inter Milan during the summer and rejecting an approach from Tottenham to succeed Jose Mourinho.

Arsenal would need to convince Conte that he would be given the tools, and the money, with which to challenge for trophies at the Emirates and would reject any offer that he felt showed the Gunners are prepared to accept second best.

Let’s all pray we lose all our coming games just to get rid of the Spaniard amateur for Conte, then we should be excited.

Conte is another cheque book manager like Mourinho and pep.. after spending nearly £120 mil and paying £10mil for Arteta, do you think Conte will be given another £200 mil? You live in a cooko world...

Say they sacked Arteta and paid his compensation around £10mil and then what chance Arsenal have to bring Conte? He rejected Spurs despite of competitive wages and over £100mil transfer kitty.

Cannot see Josh Kroenke spending another £150-200mil. I think it's better to back the current manager.

Arsenal have already took a loan of £100mil for this season...

Back Arteta.
Trust the Process

I doubt he’d go by October unless we lose literally every game between now and then and continue looking poor. I reckon if things are even a little bit better then that he’ll get til December still

It will be a minor miracle if Arteta is in the job by the end of the season.

Signings on the whole have been poor but more worrying is the style, there isn't one.

I think after the city game he’s really got to pull some top performances and good a winning run to get any supporters trust this season , talking at least a winning run until the Liverpool game i. November. Even if he does reasonably well after city it’ll still feel like he’s one loss from disaster

He’s really running out of excuses why he hasn’t been able to turn our fortunes around, especially when you see a manager like Moyes, who everyone took the pîśs out of, take West Ham from 16th to 6th in one season with much less resources than Arteta has. I think many fans would be fine with Arteta doing moderately well while we rebuilt some what, like 2 6th places finishes if there was signs of improvement and a solid game plan, but it’s almost the opposite now. I’d love him to suddenly turn this around, but I’m really getting the feeling the wrtting is on the wall for Arteta. Even if we beat Norwich and Burnley , if we then lose to spurs I really couldn’t see a way back for him from there.

Then even if he does go, I can’t say I trust the club to handle replacing him well either. Could see it being something dumb like Henry as interim until the end of the season. I really hope they are seriously looking at replacements at the moment, because unless Arteta works some magic over the next month, there really isn’t much evidence that he’s the right man.

When we came into the preseason games with the same (lack of) gameplan that had made us look so sh*t last season, that was it for Arteta imo. The signings aren't inspiring but there's a squad there that should be competing for Europa places at least, but whatever he is trying to get them to do it either isn't happening or his ideas are awful in the first place. No signings can fix this.

Yeah that worried me too, even by the low expectations I had I was surprised by how little we improved over the summer and how underprepared we looked. I thought we’d at least try something fresh this season, even if it something that ended up not working, but to start from exactly where we left off was very disheartening

ke click bait. A pre-emptive strike to silence any season ticket holders sharing my thoughts on Arteta. It's to prevent them from booing for the next 5 games whilst he does the "Pretend I'm replacing him," dance. Which is basically the same as the "Pretend we're seriously bidding for a top player," dance we've seen him do, every transfer window for the last decade. He knows Conte will likely already have another job by PL game 5. Then once Arteta has lost 4, drawn 1 it'll be "Arteta gets 10 more games after Arsenal miss out on Conte." The exact same sh !t he does with top players. Stall, stall then "Aaw shucks sorry fans, at least we tried."

ke knows exactly how to play this fanbase like a cheap fiddle, he's been at it for years and this is just the same machine rolling out to work again. He's almost as good at muggin off a fanbase as the "mug 'em off" legends that are Mesut Ozil and his agent.

No player signing. A new manager could potentially turn these players around overnight. Some pedigree and experience backed up with a real gameplan, correct team selection and respectful treatment of his players. Which for the players would all be coming on top of their "THANK GOD that feckin s gone," feeling of relief.

Not a doubt in my mind that get rid of Arteta and appoint a manager of quality and this squad of players is turned around damned near instantly. IMO It's the ONLY thing that can save this mess now too, Arteta's drowned himself months ago and the owner's just watching a bloated decomposing body floating on top the water and pretending to himself and the fans that it's swimming. All we're doing now is following that corpse as it float towards a bigass bunch of relegation rocks that will well and truly smash and sink the Emirates ship.

In his defence I don't think he'll let him sink it, eventually he'll fly in a new captain to correct course and avoid. problem is, go much past 5 games on this current course and the new captain can only save the ship. Sack the muppet now and he can not only save the ship but still have enough time steer us to at least a podeum finish in this seasons race too.
