Again, I don’t see the point in going through such an elaborate rouse. What do they stand to gain other than adding 30 mil for all other targets.

I think they were genuine trying to buy Mbappe. It doesn’t make sense to bluff.

perception is important
in this case perception of having stupid money to spend on the best players in the world like mbappe (not saying they are broke) benefits their reputation and distances and also distances them from thee broke boys of barca

compare the stories to their actions in the transfer market in the last few years:
21/21: INS: 25 mill OUT: 70mil NET: +45mill
20/21: INS: 00 mill OUT: 93mil NET: +93mill
19/20: INS: 320 mill OUT: 120mil NET: -200mill
18/19: INS: 145 mill OUT: 123mil NET: -22mill
17/18: INS: 35 mill OUT: 120mil NET: +85mill

this is the activity of a club that has not been reckless in transfers. The anamoly being 19/20 even then their most expensive signing was hazard for 100 million.
Yet you want me to believe the were going to spen 220 million on a player they could sign for free in 4 months.
