Many of us have been posting that the "diamond" is City's best formation pretty much since Sven first started at the club. This is not hindsight with 20/20 vision ( if I could access the old 606 articles I could prove it) but just watching games and seeing the defensive frailties when we played 4-3-3.
So Sven nows sees this and we also proved that we can create sufficient width with the right players in the right places. Also going to say we told you so - but we did !
Next thing is to have a plan.
Sven said all along that we need two players in every position - we almost have. Recognising that you cannot attract quality players who are prepared to spend a good deal of the season warming the bench; you have to accept some weaknesses in this strategy. But this would be my attempt.
Schmeichel (Weale)
Peltier (Pantsil) Mills (Tunchev) Bamba (St Ledger) Konchesky (Ball)
Holding Midfield: Wellens or Abe
RM: Danns (Gallagher). LM; Fernandes (Dyer)
Forward Midfield: King (Johnson)
Strikers Nugent / Beckford (Schlupp) (Vassell)
Those bracketed would IMO be second choice, although I think someone like SSL is unluckly not to be in the first team as I believe he is a more consistent player than Bamba. But apart from the occasional dalliance, Sol has earned his place.
Oh and equally satisfying (if not more so) was thumping Derby. Have never liked them!

Most satisfying.

We need to compete in a reserve league to keep all the squad fit and ready to play - There are many players who you have "bracketed" that could easily win a regular starting place

I agree Danger.
What are the options for reserve leagues these days?

True Spherical.
Which is why it is a shame we went out of the League Cup by such a close margin. Although clubs like Cardiff might find themselves a bit stretched if they stay in the competition much longer.
