Saul

All the noises at the minute seem to be he's in line for his debut. I'm not sure what to expect from him if I'm honest, highly touted not so long ago, coming off what's obviously been a difficult time for him into a new league not knowing the language could be a recipe for disaster but if we get the Saul of a couple of seasons ago, under a manager who clearly rates him and everything he touches so far at Chelsea had turned into gold he could be a very handy player to have, especially with Kante needing to be very carefully managed these days.

Like Kovacic I'm not expecting too much from him this season tbh. Not a hinderance, but not too many performances that make people think we have to sign this guy. However he does, next season I'm sure he'll be better.

The loan aspect of the deal is more a gauge of his adapting to living in London & whether he wants to stay/fancies a change the way I see it. Long as he doesn't stink it's worth activating.

I'm still disappointed by this for all the reasons you've laid out jp.

As a loan player, unless he hits the ground running straight away, I don't see the advantage of giving this squad place to an unknown quantity from overseas rather than using Billy, who by all accounts had another good game for Scotland in the week or Conor Gallagher, who's smashing it so far this season in another teams shirt!

I don't get it!

Not the best of debuts

Well that's clearly a player who's spent his entire career in Spain isn't it? ... least now he knows you don't get the luxury of five years on the ball in England

I will say though look at the difference in Kovacic today! He feels pressure to up his game, and that's the competition a guy with his rep brings (to answer Brummie's point).

I'm not quite sure what my point about Kova is!!

The onus is on guys like Gilmour and/or Gallagher to perform and create competition, someone like Saul brings competition just from his rep alone. That's the upside to bringing a player like him in.

There's downsides as well obviously, but I see the sense in it (where you don't) is my point.

I'm glad one of us knows what we're talking about!

Gallagher was class against Spurs today.

A horror debut from him, hopefully he learns.
