So after an all but predictable result against palace at the weekend and some knee jerk reactions from myself I’ve had time to reflect on the palace game
I’ve come to the conclusion my knee jerk reactions are not knee jerk and I’m still angry and disappointed. Mainly with mr levy
Kane should have been sold with negotiations started long ago with City. Yes they low balled us but probably just trying to open up communication but reports have led us to believe levy didn’t want to even take the calls
I’ve always said once a player wants to go you have to let them go as you don’t get the same player. Kane’s performance Saturday was shocking. I realise I could pick on the rest of the team too but he is suppose to be the main man, leader , England captain. Where was he to galvanise the guys?
Another levy mistake and I know it will divide opinion as a lot we’re happy levy stood firm
The biggest one for me though is the Nuno appointment. I feel for the bloke. He seems a thoroughly likeable chap. However he is the wrong man
Levy promised a return to exciting football. Win or lose I want to see some flair. I’m use to seeing us not win trophies and I can handle it but what I can’t handle is even more defensive football for another season
We won the first 3 games but we didn’t deserve a victory in any of them (maybe City) and it just papered over the cracks of negative defensive football
It can’t be just the squad ! Potter at Brighton gets a worse team playing nice football …..palace played us off the park Saturday! Easily worse team !
My prediction….Nuno gone by Christmas
Probably Ledley in the dug out to see out the season !

Nuno tactics are to counter attack. Soak up the pressure and hit teams on the break. Doesn't work when we habe no space up top or either side of Kane.
He needs to push Dele back in midfield. Shouldn't have played Winks and started with Gil.

Agree with your second part about Nuno which I think is some ways proves you wrong about the first point on Kane. Three holding players, effectively committing to eight players behind the ball (inc goalkeeper) means that of course your striker is going to be isolated. If he was going to look disinterested, it would have come in the EC League. It didn't. He appeared disinterested on Saturday as he just didn't get the ball.
I agree Nuno appears to be a nice guy but he can't curb his cautious instincts. There was an interview with Paratici when Nuno first arrived and he explained that we wanted Nuno but we wanted him to implement a more attacking style of play than he's been used to for the last 3 years. If that's the case, why not bring in a coach that shares those values. I was screaming for Potter for the entire time we were looking to hire. Him or Poch (yes I was seduced by that idea to) were the obvious candidates. Why on earth bring in a manager then tell him to do the opposite of what comes naturally to him.
He won't be gone by Christmas though. Levy won't consider anything until we've given him a chance and I kind of agree with that. He's here now. We need to give him a chance to build something. He's not had long enough with the players to be properly judged but I stand by the same thought as you that I don't think he was ever the right appointment in the first place.

I just wanted to see Kane grab the game a bit more when we needed him at nil nil 11 v 11….that’s when his dropping off into midfield was needed as he is the only one who can create anything it seems!

I'd like to see Gil get more game time but for some reason Nuno doesn't want to play him. He had a good game in the Conference qualifier so I can't understand why he's not getting any run in the side. The worrying part is that Nuno has previous in this department. He had a really promising youngster in Morgan Gibbs White at Wolves and never, ever used the kid, despite his obvious talent. Like I said, he's a cautious manager so he'll be looking at what Gil does tracking back rather than focusing on what he offers going forward. He only gave Silva game time at Wolves because Jimenez had that horrific injury. Without that, he'd be on the bench too (that said, I don't think Silva is much cop anyway but it's a good example of his lack of faith in youngsters).

I'd be alright with heavy defeats if I could see a style developing. I know it's too early for that but after 4-5 games you begin to see the seed of an idea a manager brings usually. You can see it with the new Wolves manager (they're already looking to dominate games more) and you defo saw the difference in the first few Potter games for Brighton. Aside from the obvious over-caution against a side that will be scrapping to stay up this season, the part I find alarming is the lack of desire, invention and want to control a game. If you set up with three holding you're telling your players that the first priority is caution. That has a direct effect on how brave players are on the ball. There were so many times on Saturday where a forward switch of play was on for those midfielders and all three took the easy square pass every time. Scared of making a mistake.
He's a nice guy and I really hope it works out but I've seen nothing so far that convinces me that there's a seed of encouragement in the way he sets up.

I don't blame Winks. He's clearly at his limit. He's not really a youngster with potential anymore either. Players plateau and dip all the time. No, as far as I'm concerned, if you're already playing PEH and Skipp, you should never be playing Winks. You play with two holding when you have another midfielder you're carrying that doesn't like to track back, like Ndombele. That's why United often played Fred and McTominay alongside Pogba. You need one creative in there. To play three holding is just criminal. I'd find that unambitious against the very best. We were playing Palace for Christ's sake. We're all going lightly on Nuno for that really. If he does that later on in the season and we've made no real progress, the Spurs fans won't show as much patience. It's only really the circumstances surrounding the Covid restricted players that have let him off the hook.

in his defence... he just had a busy week with England and looked shattered..... he had 0 service whatsoever. he was just as poor as everyone else. Kane is now a striker who needs service, not the kind that we had 3 years ago who could do it all himself....
