Liverpool v AC Milan LIVE!

KO: 2000

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Matip, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Keita; Jota, Salah, Origi.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Van Dijk, Konate, Thiago, Milner, Mane, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Minamino, Tsimikas, Phillips.

Milan: Maignan; Calabria, Kjær, Tomori, Hernandez; Kessie, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Rebic.

Subs: Jungdal, Tatarusanu; Ballo-Toure, Florenzi, Gabbia, Kalulu, Romagnoli; Tonali; Giroud, Maldini.

Two teams synonymous with UEFA Champions League (UCL) football unite as six-time winners Liverpool take on seven-time victors AC Milan. Surprisingly, this is the first European H2H excluding finals, but memories of ‘that night in Istanbul’ will come flooding back for Liverpool fans, while Milan supporters will instead fondly remember their revengeful 2-1 win in the 2007 final, where they claimed the last of their UCL crowns.
Liverpool’s resurgence as European contenders has been felt by most teams they’ve faced in recent seasons, as since the start of the 2017/18 UCL, only Bayern Munich (31 & 112) and Manchester City (30 & 96) have won more games and scored more goals than Liverpool’s 25 and 95. That was Mohamed Salah’s first season as a ‘Red’, and only Robert Lewandowski (33), Cristiano Ronaldo (29) and Lionel Messi (26) have scored more UCL goals than the Egyptian’s 25 since.
Having just snuck into the UCL spots last season, Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the Premier League (W3, D1), is called and raised by opponents AC Milan’s perfect start to Serie A (W3), as the ‘Rossoneri’ return to Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2013/14.
The form guide tends to go out the window against English opposition though, as Milan have only won one of their last 13 European matches against English sides (D4, L8). Their strong domestic performances that got them here last season didn’t translate to European success then either, as Milan only won two of their previous eight Europa League fixtures (D4, L2).
Players to watch: Liverpool’s Sadio Mané (19) is looking to become only the fourth African player to reach 20 goals in the competition’s history, while Olivier Giroud’s (ACM) eight goals against Liverpool between the 2012/13 and 2019/20 seasons, is the most of any player the ‘Reds’ faced during that time.
Hot stat: Under Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool have lost only one UCL group stage home game (W9, D2), while averaging 2.5 goals per game in that period.

Porto not easy to beat, they don’t lose many games. Only Chelsea have beaten them since April.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We most often best them by about 4 goals...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’ve drawn with them as often as we’ve done that….
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of interest, how often is that the second leg of a tie where we've blown them away in the first leg?

Weren't we the first team to beat them at their gaff in years in the CL a couple of years ago. I would say they are the weakest team in this group.

I was merely making the point that at the moment they’re not an easy team to beat. Chelsea beat them over two legs in April, but Porto won at Stamford Bridge, and they haven’t lost a game since.

Remember that squad depth we didn't address in summer?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep, it’s these games when you realise how lack of effective player investment comes home to roost. Compare and contrast with Chelsea’s bench last night, almost a second first VI sat there.

^ this twaaaat

When we have VVD, Tsimikas, Thiago, and Mane on the bench.

Fack me another crazy night at Anfield, loved it!

UEFA can fack off, no way that anthem is going to be heard at Anfield, it’s an objective to chant it out. Also not a single steward was going around telling us all to sit down either.

First half we were thinking Mo slots the pen away it’s going to be 5 or 6.. but I guess they felt we needed to be entertained. Absolutely in shock at half time, but back on it from the start of the second half.

Rebic was a handful, really is a Klopp type player chased everything and was half dead when he was brought off. Their right back (captain) was also absolutely facked.

I’d put money on juve beating them comfortably, they were ran to pieces.

Jordan, Jordan Henderson, henderson henderson henderson! What a hit.

Div needs to get sharper he’s forever waiting for the ball to come to him in which time he gets tackled or fouled. Bloke is also annoyingly crap in the air for the size he is, thought he’d get his bonce to one corner at least.

Matip was superb, carried Gomes a bit. Trent had a hard time as he was being doubled up on by Theo and Kassie, and they tended to look at the space he leaves as an out ball.

Their keeper is as dodgy and hesitant as fack though, convinced he only saved the pen as he was still making his mind up which way to dive!

Won’t have Karius in goal nor playing at the Madrid training ground.

Bring it on.
