Overrated films

I’ll go first…

From Dusk Till Dawn

Liked it as a kid but watched half of it the other day and had to turn it off. Maybe it’s coz I don’t like George Clooney at all, I don’t know

The finale was awful. Some redneck abandoned house in the woods, and a corner. End. Load of bollox. The one thing it did do, for its sins was inspire Rec which was what it should have been.

Terminator 2, ok but not a patch on the original, yet everyone banged on about it just because of the effects at the time. The brat that player John Connor needed facking biitch slapping for a start.

Terminator 2 is an absolutely superb action film

Bond:

specture - massive let down. huge action opener, miserable intro of a potential great villain. Cuckoo? WTF

Skyfall - average

quantum - below average

Casino royale - very good bond, little bit of a poor villian mind. the weeping eye stuff for me doens't cut it.

die another day - pathetic effort - start of this bond is an aging bitter veteran

the world is not enough, an other weaker villian and average

tomorrow never dies - ok.

Goldeneye - massive. spawns a whole genre there. video games etc. Some hammy stuff TBH but was a good bond film

licence to kill - decnet follow up

the living daylights vastly underrated. quite good

then you start heading into the connery/moore/ lazenby bonds and they are a bit mixed up in terms of appearances

There is a continuous theme with bonds. the actors start in their prime and all end up decrepit in at lease one movie and probably 2 or more.

there are some real classic with your stereotypical bond villians i nthere.

the modern world doesn't need cuckoos nor weeping eyes. I would like to see Bond up against a real spectre with a real villian capable of leading a sinister secret organisation of crime. Do with over 3 or 4 movies in quick succession not 2 or 3 max a decade. imo thats where bond falls down. its not written over the long term really the trun up and try to link them together afterwards.

Good post, most of which I agree with - personally I thought licence to kill was shieeete. But I agree with the rest

Two of the greatest films ever. Particularly aliens, which is better than any action, sci-fi or horror, probably any movie actually, since.,

I can’t actually think of a film I’d prefer to watch that I’d seen before..it’s just brilliant.
