Bolton Wanderers v Wigan Athletic

Derby day and not just the Ali Al habsi derby. I was thinking last night just 6.8 miles apart this is now the true derby match for both clubs. Certainly for Wigan. For Bolton we had rivalry with Blackburn, Preston, Blackpool, Tranmere, Bury, even the Manchester clubs but Bolton v Wigan is now getting the crowds in. Around 20000 expected at the in unibol today. Both had similar recent history. New stadiums, long spells in the premier league, crash down the leagues, change of long standing ownership, going into administration. True rivals on the day but should be friends after that. Some memories going back to the first fixture between the clubs on boxing day 1983. Free buses that day and I made full use as I watched Bolton win 1-0 in the home end at Springfield park before catching the bus to Maine road for Manchester City v Oldham. Freight rover/lower league clashes, goals from Tony Caldwell, mark Gavin. Premier league clashes, goals from Nicolas anelka, andranik, fa cup Zach Clough. Some ups and downs there. Today Wigan 3rd and Bolton 8th early promotion candidates. Early days though. Team news. Gethin Jones is suspended today and is also injured. Evatt has hinted at others being out today. Good news Amaechi and Edwards are back training. Amaechi aiming for mid November return, Edwards will be longer I would imagine. Tutte remains long term. Possible replacement for Jones are brockbank or Isgrove. 3pm ko. I hope everyone enjoys the game and emotions don't run too high.

It's like a fruit shop, there's a lot of banana skins in the full draw.

I will try again , we lost this one because Wigan exploited a weakness in our defence. Johnson had a nightmare against Wyke , I don`t think he won one dual. It was then a case of being light in midfield because they threw numbers forward to retrieve the second ball. We missed Lee yesterday and it sounds like he could be out for a couple of games ?
I don`t think Evatt gave Brockbank a chance by putting him in against very physical opponents with no cover from the wing defensively . If he had played Isgrove I am sure it would have been a different story.
As usual Afolayan was superb but he had no protection from the Ref at anytime in the match.
That`s my twopenneth for what its worth - on to the next match

I`d like to see Aimson and Baps as centrebacks on Tuesday but I have got the feeling he will play Johnson and Aimson with Baps at rightback.
It`s definitely time to bring Thomason in for a more defensive look to midfield , that`s if Lee is still injured.
I agree that Delphonso should be given a chance instead of carrying on with an injured Sarcevich, he and Sheehan could be a good combination.
I thought that Thomason was outstanding when he came on against Wigan but he did have the advantage of fresh legs.
Ever the optimist, I think we will bounce back on Tuesday.

Pretty much to the point. I suppose we will have to do our own match reports now that the beano has that as a premium item. I think brockbank will get another chance but leaving isgrove out if fit is madness.

Thanks Wilf the more independent reports from people who were there the better. You can't beat watching a game from the stands where you get to see the full picture, iFollow and TV only gives a narrow view with the best of the commentary being the odd funny shout out for my money.
I hope IE will now cease this plan of his playing forward players out on the right wing Chunga and Baka shouldn't be stuck out there if anything they should be paired together as a front two if Doyle doesn't find his confidence and start hitting the back of the net again soon and as for fielding players carrying an injury or knocks that never ends well.

I see the Ben haven't got their brain in gear this morning.
Using the Ifollow and EFL branding on teasers leading to premium content hasn't gone down well with the lawyers protecting those brands. The Ben will need to up the price or give up the ghost if the legal bills keep mounting up.

There's one I posted further up the thread for Wilf which I hope will explain it.

Sorry, I missed it Pasty. Still, no harm was done.

Thanks for your match assessment Wilf. It throws more light on a dismal display.

What happens tomorrow with injuries and players lacking in confidence? It's to be hoped that Evatt has a plan.

What surprised me most about Saturday, is that Evatt seemed to have been able to assess what was going wrong in a game and make a difference with his instructions at the halftime team talk. There was no evidence of that on Saturday. For me, he should have made changes in the team at the beginning of the second half but he waited until we were 2-0 down.

Was he so angry with the performance that he didn't concentrate on what was going wrong?

I haven't seen anything regarding that Pasty. So you reckon the BN is in trouble?

I'm busy shopping for tomorrow night I want to create the right atmosphere so I think a Sowester, hat and wellies are in order, trouble is they've never heard of them around here they keep trying to sell me a sun umbrella or parasol, It looks like I'll have to make do with looking at the garden sprinklers and fountain through the window.

It might get as wet where you are as it is here. It rained continually through the night so if it's the same down south, I just hope their ground has a good drainage system.
