Charlie Adam plays for Dundee and is the best player in the league. He is arguably better than Ronaldo at the moment. Certainly offers far more.

I vaguely recall Fergie once going through the motions of pretending to be interested in a player Liverpool wanted, just to make them pay a bit more for him. Can anyone remember who that was?

We did give them Phil Jones in return knowing they won't go for Henderson.

It surprises me the amount of focus going into dissing Ronaldo who has scored 5 goals already compared to the absolute dismal service he has received from the rest of the team who are not working hard to support him at all, both Shaw and AWB were awful at Leicester the midfield enough said, Bruno continually conceded possession and Greenwood is very selfish he rarely gets his head up to look for a pass, Ok a wonder strike but he needs to improve the team side of his play it’s a shot or nothing with him. The fact is Ronaldo or not we are just not a team Mbbappe would look crap just like Sancho does now we would destroy Salah in five games just like we have Ronaldo.

It's not about dissing Ronaldo, or suggesting that the problems with United start with Ronaldo. The point is that he has some specific limitations (basically he presses less than any other striker in the league) which need to be accommodated, and this exacerbates a situation where the team that already had one tactical headache to work around by the need to accommodate both Pogba and Fernandes, and which is already really bad at pressing.

It's not Ronaldo's fault, and there are other teams that could be better equipped to get the best out of him while mitigating the lack of mobility. But for us I genuinely think it's an additional problem when we already had a big one to fix. The question for me isn't 'has Ronaldo played well?' but 'are we looking like a better team than we were before he arrived?'

The shape of our team is crap regardless.

I’ve always had my issues with Ronaldo off the ball, but it’s not one I’ve been too focussed on with us because we are just bad off the ball all across the board.

Worth a try considering we wasted £70m on him to address a position that wasn’t really a priority compared to CM.
