Apologies, bit late with this one - have been having a battle with a screw.
Not much to say, apart from turning these infuriating 0-0s into wins. There is a lot to be said about wins.
Someone is due alot of goals being scored against them. Maybe not tonight byt soon. Rooney in trouble with the EFL for pointing out the truth about refs. It is infuriating but I feel it is part of the general malaise in standards of refereeing in the championship.
Got to run ....
Team news:-
Allsop, Byrne, Shinnie, Jagielka, Jozwiak, Bird, Lawrence (C), Morrison, Buchanan, Davies, Knight.
SubsRoos, Kazim-Richards, Stearman, Sibley, Watson, Ebosele, Williams.
Derby County 2 - 2 Luton Town

Not as old as me! When I started watching they played with five forwards - two wingers, two inside forwards and a bruiser of a CF. "What is/was a winger"? - you may well ask!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah the good old days of formations like 1-1-8 and
2-3-5!
Would absolutely love it if a manager dared to attempt this now. I think Ruud Gullit came close in the late 90s but was strongly advised not to.

Might help our issue of scoring goals!

Five up front should! I remember seeing loads of goals (often from the oppo too as everyone played the same way) but the actual football quality was often carp. Eg - we played Middlesboro in the old Div 2 and we were told to watch out for a certain Clough who was banging them in at the time. We marked him out of the game but forgot to pay any attention to a centre-half who had converted to a CF, name of Peacock, I think and he duly scored four! I think we lost that one by 7 -1.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chicago, Mr Cat was delighted to be reminded of seeing that game against Middlesborough! xx

You're welcome Cat! There's more where that came from! Also good to know that I'm not the only old f--t on here.

This 2W stuff about formations is total rubbish. After the ball is kicked off nobody plays 433 etc. Take Man City for example, the archetype of tactical coaching. When they attack they move in to a 1 1 2 6 formation and when the defend it is 4 4 1 1. You watch next time they are on the tele. The forward line is very fluid with the front players interchanging all the while. On MOTD they did an average position of Spurs against Newcastle and it was 2 4 4 because they were doing most of the attacking.
Basically it's the simple idea of getting the ball and bodies in to the opponents penalty area. It isn't rocket science, it isn't even wheelbarrow science.

You are right of course! (unless this puts a damper on the sale of wheelbarrows.)

One of the many things Spart has in common with Boris Johnson is that when he doesn't underatand something he ridicules it and pretends it doesn't exist. If there was nothing to coaching then Man City would employ Spart. Saying that you just need to get bodies and the ball into the box is like saying that people should just be wealthier and healthier and then everything would be fine. It avoids the difficult reality of acknowledging that there is a need for a bit of detail of how you are actually going to get there.

So what detail do you need other than players who have the skill and physical attributes to allow it. I know you like to complicate things. You need to feel clever in some way. I can't blame you as you have had years of training in the medical profession where talking in an arcane language, a mixture of languages no longer spoken, and acronyms, is de rigueur.

What if you haven't got players with the skill you want though? What do you do then if you are the manager and you are under an embargo?

Let me guess: just coach them into being better players. Problem solved.

You aren't very good at guessing Vidal.

I knew that would be your response, Spart.

Congratulations, you guessed correctly. A change is as good as a rest.
