Forest v Fulham - Match Thread

Fully out of lockdown here in Sydney, I have a relatively big weekend...so starting the thread early.

After the team spirit showed in Bristol, then anything is possible against Fulham, even if we are at home. A win would close the gap to just six points against the current (Fulham) side in second. This represents our biggest test so far under the current regime.

Stats:

Last 6: W5D1 (us) v W3D1L2 (them)
Last 6: GF13 GA4 (us) v GF12 GA8 (them)
Our Home Form: W1D1L4 GF6 GA10
Their Away Form: W3D1L2 GF13 GA6
Top Scorer: Grabban 5 v Mitrovic 12

There could be a few changes in the line-up. There were a few that were not up to their recent standard against Bristol. But with no injuries, I’d expect the 18-man squad to look the same.

Prediction: 2-2 although a five-goal thriller either way wouldn’t surprise me.

COYR!!!

Could you imagine if we were in the PL with this team - we would seriously be in danger of beating Derby’s record

Norwich are in danger of doing that this season.

Don't agree about Figs though. He has played quite well since we changed to playing 3 at the back, he clearly prefers it.

El Bosque, is go as far as saying that both Figs and Samba need replacing - I don’t think this team will go anywhere whilst those 2 are regulars

We need a keeper who commands his area and takes control of the defence - not just a good shot stopper - Samba isn’t good enough IMO

And as for Figs, he’s just not up to it, hopefully Soh, will be back ASAP

What it showed against ex-Premiership clubs. Is that there is zero margin for error. None. Three goals in eight minutes. Killed us.

Gifting them two goals was never going to end well. The third coming immediately after the change to four at the back.

I agree with both El and Rev about Figs. He’s been a lot better, but always has a mistake in him. He needed replacing last season imo.

The ref was card happy. I’m sure he booked Garner minutes after coming on. I didn’t think we had fallen apart, he reffed it like he had VAR in his head. Apparently he was a last minute replacement and Cooper said the first goal was a foul?

I think Colback’s position was part of the problem today. He was a bit off the pace and that got him taken off early. Garner out of form and yeah...looking forward to Ojeda starting.

Our Home form needs a quick fix, but QPR will feel the wrath on Saturday morning!!

The ex-Premiership teams continue to get stronger. Parachute payments are and will always be a joke to me. The equivalent of your opponents only having one glove if you’ve just had a world title fight.

Honestly, despite the score we weren’t that bad and Fulham weren’t that good.

Football is life.

Not been on since Sunday morning so I have a few things to say.
I think we finished 7th ( 1 point off the playoffs) with Samba and Figs playing regularly. I'm not saying we don't need better if we are to challenge for promotion but I don't think the need is desperate. If we can't replace them in Jan, don't worry; we'll try again in the summer. I think Fernandes is a better prospect than LMS although maybe not yet ready.

The biggest problem on Sunday was we looked tired (not fit enough?). Fulham players had goood movement, and moved the ball quickly and accurately. We have played the same team every game since Cooper came with one or two exceptions. Yates, Zinc, and Johnson looked particularly off. Give them a rest on Friday - play Colback and Garner (or Fornah), Lolley, and Mighten. Maybe Taylor too.

We had spells on Sunday when we looked OK but without posing too much of a threat. We got in good positions but the final pass was poor except for the Grabban chance.

We were poor at set pieces both for and against. Even throw ins. It looked like they had not worked on them in training. This has to improve massively.

We have improved a lot since Cooper came, and I think we will be even better when April comes around.

Bring on QPR

I haven’t watched it back Red, but they did look fitter / we looked tired. I checked the squad and they played pretty much the same team midweek though. It’s likely that we weren’t fit enough under CH and Cooper has been trying to change that no doubt.

Yeah, not sure on Fernandes short-term, but Soh has a better pass, strength and finish than Figs. A shame he’s injured, Harbottle (surgery) and Ely (fitness / setback).

Fornah should be in or around the first team, he needs less touches than any of our midfield. Ojeda is closer though, so i’d expect Colback to miss out entirely and Garner to start.

Fulham are a premiership side with premiership pace. More than any of the other relegated teams i’ve seen. On some websites i’ve even seen people talking about relegation! It was a good test, very early on in Coopers reign. I think all of your points are workable. We just need to bounce back and finish strongly before the international break.

Their team cost triple ours also.

I don’t buy the excuse that Fulham are a Premiership team full of Premiership players

Blackpool, Reading and Coventry have all beaten Fulham this season, so it proves that we should have has just as much of a chance than any of them

I think we played well in parts and the scoreline definitely flatters them, but the fact is we weren’t good enough on the day and we got the tactics and gameplan wrong

I hope we can get back on track against QPR on Friday

Tom Cairney was missing for them in those defeats earlier in the season and he is a big player with proper perm quality.

But the big moments in the game were us making mistakes, same type of mistakes that had people screaming for Hughton to get sacked. If we are really honest the similar mistakes that the likes of Barnsley, Birmingham and Blackpool were not good enough to take advantage off.

There has been improvements but still a lot of work to do and plenty to move on in the upcoming transfer windows.

All the comments have their own validity, but there is a common denominator, all the teams that did beat Fulham didn’t GIFT them three goals, take out the stupid, though unfortunately predictable mistakes and we could still have got a point out of that game. Any team will beat us if we keep gift wrapping goals, to me it’s as simple as that.
