Maybe Glick should go.

Backroom boy will help Rams in transfer market

Thursday, May 19, 2011, 09:00

A "technical director" will help to sharpen Derby County in the transfer market, according to chief executive Tom Glick.

Derby have confirmed that they are actively looking to appoint somebody to assist with the football operations side of the club.

Such a role was filled by chairman of football Adam Pearson before he left to join Hull City in October 2009.

A title for the position has yet to be chosen but Glick has been "extremely impressed" by potential candidates.

He said helping with transfers in and out of Pride Park would be a key aspect of the new role.

The Rams missed out on targets in the January window, one of them being striker Conor Sammon, who joined Wigan Athletic from Kilmarnock.

Glick shouldered the blame at the time and admitted that the club may have left it too late in making their move for Sammon.

"We have spoken publicly and we have reflected on things where we have done well and things we have missed," added Glick.

"By adding this person we think we will be that much sharper, that much more on the front foot in terms of acquisition of players as well as moving players on at the right time.

"So, yes, we have reflected and said in order for us to get better we need to bring an additional person in who can help us.

"One of the key aspects of the role would mean being the point person in the final process of acquiring a player or moving a player on.

"That would be working with the player, the other club, whether we are buying or selling, as well as the agent.

"Right now that falls largely to me, which is great and I am certainly not removing myself from the process, it is just about having another person who can help us get a little bit further forward.

"We have not put a title on the role but we are interested in adding some talent and some expertise and some depth to our team.

"We are looking to bring somebody in who can just help us shift gears and advance and get even better. Somebody who can build on the strengths we already have.

"We have a very talented and hard-working team in Nigel Clough and his coaching staff, Darren Wassall at the Academy, the scouting and medical team.

"I am joined up very closely with them but we would like to do more and do even better and we would like to bring somebody in who is doing that at a very high level."

you make me laugh you do!! Have you 2 still got animosity between yourselves? Its's only the Red Dogs that do that. I have wound a few of them up over the years to tell you the truth...........

Back on to Derby County, all I am hoping and praying for, is that Nigel has learnt his lesson from the last 2 seasons, and that he can become a good tactician (meaning he can change from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 or how ever which way he wants to) That is the sign of a good manager if he can do that
. If he is bringing these players in (8 or 9) like he said, then we will have a good chance next season.

I'm feeling generous so Ill probably end up giving him his user name back or he'll get mardy. Then ill have to "spank" him again as DRU puts it, and the repeat cycle continues...

Hi...was a baseball reg....I agree with you that Glick should go as he is just a novice at this buying and selling of players, it is no wonder we cant sign any decent players.

I'm not sure he should go as he's got the gift of the gab (shown by the fact we all keep renewing) and on the business side of things i think this will be a big help, just keep him away from the footy side of it.
Somebody with years of experience and know-how in this area would be great for us to help the lesser experienced people all over the rest of the club.
