Ronaldo’s 2nd

Should it have stood?

Was checked by VAR but clearly came off Greenwood’s arm.

Have the rules changed this season?

Not sure why they can’t just have it as intentional or not and leave it like that.

That would make far too much sense!

Not sure it matters if it comes of Greenwoods does it? Only if it came of Ronaldos.

It would have been even more impressive if he'd managed to hand-ball it into the net from that distance.

He'd still top bin it I reckon.

this one rule change I like

I did not realise the rule changed until just now, and I was expecting VAR to cancel the goal last night

I'm with you, when I saw the replay I thought there was no chance that was being allowed.

I should pay more attention when they do things like rule changes.

I was ignorant of the current rules like almost everyone else but it kind of feels right to me. I generally wouldn't want to penalise someone for an accidental hand ball. However, from a natural justice point of view, a goal scored with the help (accidental or deliberate) of a hand feels wrong. The area that still seems to need tweaking is in the interpretation of the 'unnatural position' rule in relation to penalties.

my worry is how are they sure its not intentional.
some good cheaters out there. should have just left it like it was.

My bug bear in the past was that handball had to be intentional for a free-kick to be given and that all intentional handballs were yellow cards. Yet, sometimes someone would be penalised for handball without getting a yellow!

I still think there’s more tweaking to be done. With the current rule, if you take Manes one the other week, had it gone to Salah and he’d tapped it in it would have stood, which doesn’t feel right to me at all.

It’s one of those areas that to me does need nuance rather than trying to make the law more simple. With accidental handballs, it’s about the level of advantage gained from it.
