It's time for a decision.

I am not a Ole hater. I appreciate a lot of things he has done at the club. To some extend he is successful to make the players realize the what it's to be a united player. And has made some long term decisions which are right. He has made the club move in the right direction with some good decisions especially reinstating the never say die mentality. Some of his decisions have worked. Some not. His signings were mostly good and he has kept an eye for the young academy players too.

Now his problem is, in my opinion lack of experience at a big club where you are under constant pressure. Lack of a plan B. The expectations are too high at a big club and you can't just be a regular top 4 and just stay there and be safe.

At United, his time for just being a mere top 4 candidate is up. He has to be looking for the next level now. We should be challenging for titles now. But that's not to be seen yet. May be he can make us challenge if given some more time. But how long? I don't think that will be at least in next couple of years. That's for sure.

And a club like United cannot wait. If we lose the pace these days It's difficult to come back. Take Liverpool for example. They took three decades to really come back to top and challenge.

Liverpool is now in top because of signing Klopp. City are a top team and challenging because of Pep. Chelsea are top too though they keep firing and hiring. But more often they hired the right managers. They could have won more if not for the impatience of their owner.

I fear we will take too long to come back to top like Liverpool did, if we don't make the right decision now. I am saying this as we have many top players except a great defensive mid. They are just being wasted because of not being managed well as a unit.

So I feel if we make a right decision now before losing more ground. Forget winning the league, that needs a miracle. But we are still in a position to go further in Champions league and FA. I don't say we should win champions league this year. But with a right manager we can mount a challenge.

(I usually don't write articles, so forgive my grammar mistakes. But hope I have made my point clear and would like to see your thoughts)

Good article. I think you're pretty much spot on. The biggest thing you pointed out imo is that we can't just sit, wait and hope he brings about a title challenge. It looks further away than ever right now and there's little hope of that improving in the immediate future.

The other problem is that as the years go by, it is absolutely nailed on that Newcastle will become a big threat, making even top 4 a huge challenge. We can't afford to drift based on a strange plan that is based on little more than hope at this stage.

Exactly. A decade ago City was like Newcastle. They made the right decisions in right time and became an European Superpower. Similar with PSG. What our club needs to be aware is that the more you are patient, the more it's difficult to come back. We need to act quick. No point in waiting till Christmas or end of season and see where we are by then. If we have got nothing then, it's the same start from scratch for next season.

We've kept making terrible strategic decisions (about choice of coach and when to sack them) again and again over the last 8 years because the decision making power is in the hands of a bunch of Bristol University graduates whose only area of specialist knowledge is finance. The next few weeks will be a test of whether or not the new positions filled by Murtough and Fletcher are a real departure from Woodward having the ultimate say in the FC.

...that is, I agree with the OP about the big decision. The all important context is who gets to make it.

Let’s face it.

For the next ten years, all the glory that is coming Man United’s way will be from the Women’s team.
