Amongst the VAR furore I felt something that went under the Radar was how well your team defended on Sunday. Yes you conceded 2 goals and Liverpool should have got a penalty but other than that I thought your defensive performance was the type we have see from some of Tuchels Chelsea teams.
The shape was perfect , so many blocks and interceptions before Liverpool could get the ball to the attackers and basically meant they had a lot of possession but could not create clear cut chances unlike Spurs who had probably 6 in the game alone.
The defensive shape and organization is something you would expect from a Conte led team but the performance of Eric Dier is something that left me head scratching. I thought he was class both in and out of possession.
But the guy has been abused by all and sundry but he was virtually the best defender on the park whereas lauded CBs like Matip were struggling.
It got me thinking about the perception of defensive players and how some benefit or suffer from the protection or lack they receive from other team mates or how their team is performing in general.
Certain defenders work well in specific systems but seem to suffer a lot when exposed whereas others are adaptable and have the talent to lead a defense. In the modern game van Dijk is a good example of that. I have long argued that some of the Liverpool CBs look better because of the ability and all round game of van Dijk. We have seen the same with Dias and his influence on our defense and I felt acidic raised Rio’s game even though Rio is probably the most talented CB I’ve ever watched. But his game just went up a level alongside Vidic.
My point though is that there is a player there in Dier, almost need a more disciplined player than Sanchez next to him and he could grow into an excellent CB.

“ Unfortunately most of us get our football via Sky or the Beeb, both of which pretty much view Spurs as non existent. And if they are talking about Spurs it will be on a negative basis.”
Do love the chip on the shoulder some Spurs fans have. If only both the Beeb and Sky employed a load of ex Spurs players to talk them up or something

Souness openly admitted live on air hes a soft spot for spurs, redknapp jenas hoddle murphy theres prob more.
Contes a brilliant manager imo. Without europe distraction i expect them to get top 4 under him personally. And hopefully they do.

A lot of defenders like dier, if they dont have to play football too much the space is cut out behind by playing so deep and the space infront is packed with bodies and hes left to defend whats left like balls into the box he will look a much better defender. Lovren had the same issue.

More examples ?? well how about the demonising of Kane by every media outlet over his tackle, but Robertson came out smelling of roses, with his tackle being swept under the carpet. Why ? simple. Kane plays for Spurs. Robertson plays for Liverpool.
------------------
Robertson got a red card. Which he has said was the right call and apologised for. Klopp said it was the right decision.
Kane didn't get a red and came out and said he was surprised he got a yellow. If you don't see why one might be more of a story than the other then you are a bit thick.

Everyone hates spurs😢 stevef give it a rest.
Spurs are treated equally with all the top teams, try supporting a not so favored team.
Your moaning reeks of privilege.

Tbf it’s not really ‘some’ Spurs fans. In fact it only ever seems to be Steve who comes out with this cringey shiiit after every Spurs game.

I didn't like our shape in the first half as TAA and Roberton had so much time on the ball. You cannot give TAA too much time on the ball to look up and pick a pass. He is deadly.
In the first minute he picked out Robertson who fluffed the header but Sanchez let his man go for their first goal and it pulled Dier out for a cross to Jota to head in.
Sanchez is still a liability but made a crucial tackle late on to deny Pool a 3rd when they were down to ten men.
Tbh I am not reading too much in Sunday's game as Liverpool's midfield was not even their 2nd choice and we only drew plus another referee might have made different decisions. Had we won I might get a little bit carried away.

Yeah, we were lucky we could start our usual XI....oh wait
