Sony driving it's business forward.

Ok, you all know me and my titles, this has nothing to do with the PS5, but with the future of cars. Sony announcing plans to launch it's own EV division.

This is not as strange as it may sound. Sony are well versed in the technologies needed for such a project. and In many ways better placed than legacy auto, who are really stuck between a rock and a hard place, having to let go of their ICE car business, to pursue the EV future.

Sony on the other hand have a clean slate, able to bring together their expertise in electronics and software, to build what could be a very compelling product.

Anyone who knows me will know I have been following the EV revolution very closely, and with their rapid growth, this offers a unique opportunity for Sony to expand it's business.

gap is decreasing*

Whodunnit
Also the gap in decreasing in terms of EV cars. However traditional car sales still dwarf EV sales
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which is a huge part of legacy autos problem. Dwarf you say? You have no idea how fast EV sales are growing.

And if you are talking about EV sales and Tesla. the gap is increasing.

Can't we all just get along!?

I'm genuinely looking for a new car at the moment, so you both might be able to help me. I have no strong affinity to EV cars, but it does appear sensible to at least get a hybrid.

The last 18 months, I've had a Volvo XC40 Plug-in hybrid and I absolutely loved it, so I'm tempted to just get the same again. Towards the end, however, I must confess that I just ran it off of it's fuel tank, as I got lazy with charging.

My mate strongly recommends the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but, I don't know; I just think they're kind of funny looking and look a bit boring inside (also my gripe with Teslas)

Rooney, you are right about plug in Hybrids, stats show, most run around on fuel as battery range is limited.

There is a growing choice of EV's these days, and recommending one is down to budget and as you point out taste.

For me it is hard to look past a Tesla, they have the range, performance, software, and importantly charging network. So owning one is as straight forward as it gets for EV's. I would certainly book a test drive (there is no hard sell)

If you really fancy something a little different, there are all sorts of EV's available. I don't know how soon you will looking to change? But there is the fully charged Live show at Farnborough end of April https://fullycharged.live/

You will get the chance to see all the EV's on offer, with plenty of test drives, and advice from owners and experts.

And don't worry, I don't have a problem with whodunnit. He is a decent enough guy. he does know more than most about EV's. He just hasn't got the pieces quite in order.

Thanks Amiga.

I recently changed jobs, so I had to give back the Volvo and so I’m fairly desperate for a new one quite soon. I’m running around in a much older car I borrowed from an aunt and there’s certainly not the same love for driving!

I really like the look of that new Ford Mustang Mach-e, but it seems quite expensive. I think my best bet is to go spend a day test driving a few, alas, finding that totally free day is the difficult part!!

The Mach-e is a popular car, But there is far too much choice now to say which is right for you. There is an EV experience centre in Milton Keynes. It won't have anywhere near the choice of EV's that will be at the fully charged show.

But they have various models you can test drive, and can offer advice on all aspects of EV's. So if you explain what you like, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

Gridserve also do lease deals, and I'm sure will again offer plenty of good advice.
