"Your post was all about we had great players in past and they were young, as if trying to justify that our young players should therefore be good enough.
It's bizarre logic."
Well if every body else sees it like you I'll stop posting!..
All I've said and named a few names in doing so is because there are so many that bring our youngsters down and say they shouldn't be there!..
Sorry, I'm saying it again, if the coach or whoever is in charge is happy then there's no reason why they shouldn't play!..
These last couple of weeks the youths have been dragged in, yes dragged, and they've done better than most thought they would, so, if the next game our 15yr old is on the bench, hopefully he gets the last 10 minutes just to see if he might have a future!..

Our U23s are not in the same bracket as the players you have mentioned.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry but you cannot possibly say that.
It is a matter of record that Lorimer made his debut at 15, a 1-1 draw at home to Southampton and of course he would have started but we have no idea how well he played. I am not sure why he started that game, without a doubt the squads were much smaller in the those days and it may be that the Don had similar selection dilemmas to those facing Bielsa.
No doubt Lorimer's appearance did cause a lot of commotion but it is telling that it wasn't until 29th April 1965 (over 2 years later) that he got his next game he was well past his 18th birthday by then. His debut was in the 2nd division, his second appearance was when we were challenging in the 1st division.
No doubt at the end of his first appearances people were questioning whether he had what it took.
Milner's debut was at a time when the squad was down to the bare bones, this may have done him some good, perhaps he was forced to mature. Had the squad had more strength in depth I doubt he would have made so many appearances so early on.
I think there is bags of potential in our U23's but actually it's way to early to make a sweeping statement such as the one above, it was obvious from the outset that Pele would be a great but most great players don't stand out from their peers until much later on in their careers. Ian Wright, undoubtably a great, trained as a plasterer and spent time in prison before making his pro debut at 21.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you really saying that our U23s are as good as
Lorimer, Kewell, Smith and Rooney, the players mentioned?
Really

Where has anyone said this?
Seriously, no one is saying this.

if you are good enough you are old enough, making comparisons is all hypothetical and can never be justified

No I am saying that you are writing players off prematurely, pretty sure at Archie's age nobody would have thought Lorimar was destined to become a great.
David Seaman, the third best English keeper (Banks, Shilton, Seaman) was written off at an early age.
And again, Jonty, you shouldn't comment on the kids if you have never watched them.

Wow, ten minutes to prove yourself, at 15, seems a bit harsh.

Always very funny when he says that, though. Worth a chuckle.
