League 2?

There are suggestions today in the media that if the worst comes to the worst and DCFC are liquidated that the EFL would allow a new Derby County to begin its life in League 2. I suppose it would be similar to what happened to Glasgow Rangers.

I saw a rumour quite a while back, can't remember if I posted it on here, that Andy Appleby had sounded out the EFL about what level it would consider appropriate for a liquidated club to re-join, so I expect there is at least a bit of mileage in this story.

I think there is a lot of brinkmanship going on. Gibson hates Morris and I expect he wants him to suffer more than he wants Derby to suffer. He doesn't want to be known as the bad guy either, at least not in the eyes of the wider football community. The EFL just want it all to go away without Gibson suing them or there being even more spotlight cast on their organisation. "Noise" as Parry likes to call it, public exposure of incompetence as it is more correctly known.

Let's say a potential purchaser, let's call him Mike Ashley, has a figure in mind for which he wants the club, the stadium and no further sanctions. If he can persuade Morris to reduce the asking price for Pride Park by a few million, maybe he uses that saved money to settle privately with Middlesbrough and Wycombe. He is supposedly on good terms with Gibson so it isn't beyond the bounds of possibility.

Perhaps this story is being put out there to flush out Morris. As I understand it, if we are liquidated he has a stadium with little value and owes MSD 20 million pounds. So will he sell Pride Park on the cheap to allow a sale? If not, and this story is true, where could a new League 2 Derby County club play its games, if not at Pride Park?

'He's an intelligent bloke with his own business, surely he has better things to do.'

So was Mel Morris, apparently

EFL statement: the proposed meeting planned for today of stakeholders has been postponed because of "positive developments over the weekend". The delay is to give the administrators a bit more time to sort stuff out. A ray of hope maybe?

I understand that anyone on the EFL board, who has a conflict of interests, cannot attend/have a voice on the matter.

Yes, I am certain that they keep their thoughts very much to themselves outside of meetings and never discuss it at all. I'm certain that Steve Gibson has never spoken to Rick Parry for example, and told him that Middlesbrough will sue the EFL unless the EFL does exactly what he says. Yes, I'm as sure as you are that they "cannot have a voice on the matter."

Adding to Vidal's comments re conflict of interest here's an imaginary conversation between Parry (let's call him P) and Gibson's EFL Board rep (let's call him G).

Scene 1: one of the corridors of power at EFL

G: "HI, P, fancy a coffee at Starbuck's cos I can't attend the meeting coming up on DCFC."

P: "Great, we've got an hour."

Scene 2 - Starbucks.

G. "I'm going to get that so-and-so Morris if it's the last thing I do but because he's hiding behind company law I've got to screw DCFC".

P: "I get it, G. Don't worry. Rules are rules and we've got to apply them."

G: "Yes you have and remember, if you don't apply them in full and to the letter, I've got a brilliant tame solicitor who, as it happens, dislikes EFL intensely."

P: "Grief, G, relax. Remember you can bring any claim you like agin DCFC via our arbitration scheme. If you do that it could well scupper any sale of that b....y club and then they're screwed.!"

G: "Great, thanks P but what can you do personally to help as well?"

P: "I do have influence you know, G".

Curtain.

Is that so unlikely a scenario? No. The Boro rep should have resigned from EFL board just as Pearce resigned some time ago.
