Transfer Window no striker and Auba

I see some people think this was a good transfer window because we got rid of players that didnt play that much anyway. I thought Chambers did ok for us.

As for Aubamayang - I wonder if the truth will come out about the real issue between him and Arteta rather than just being late for training and then frozen out ever since. On the other hand when he did play he was anonymous. Mixed feelings about him going.

As for not getting a striker I can understand the reluctance to come.
To a potential new striker that gets approached by Arsenal, in their eyes they see how Auba was treated and dont want the same nonsense.

I think not getting a striker is a big thing and can see us struggling for the rest of the season. There will be more performances like Burnley H and Everton A. Maybe Charlie Patino will get another chance but as a striker rather than midfield with Sambi Lokonga.

We have yet to win in 2022
Saka has scored our only goal this year
Not getting a striker is a disaster

I'm going to be in a minority here but you had to get rid of Aubameyang, a captain that didn't set standards the team should follow.

You clearly wanted Vlahovic but he didn't fancy Arsenal, had he done you would have signed him. It's better not to rush into another panic buy (situation like Pepe) and hold onto the money and get a striker who can be the real deal.

Better to give Nketiah a chance to support Lacazette or try Martinelli as a 9 for a few months. Than make a rash decision now you regret for years. Imo another sign of the slow steady progress Arsenal are making.

Not the best outcome but not really sure what else the club could do. Theres obviously more to the situation with Aubameyang than we will ever know.
But surely far better to stick with what we have than panic buy like we've done in the past and be lumbered with expensive misfits.
It seems at least one of our targets didnt want to join us and some of the others were too expensive.

I agree with Auba leaving. his pace was deserting him and so was his finishing - his only 2 assets. However, I dont agree with him leaving and not having a replacement. Every club lines up a 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice etc. Just because a club accepts a fee, a player CAN refuse to join. So when that happens, you move on...and do so fast! You dont want to throw money at a reluctant player because eventually they will have their head turned and down tools. That is where we failed! We knew maybe 2 weeks ago that Vlahovic did not want to come. His agent was not taking calls. We should have moved on.

You also talk about Nketiah. Surely not! He has had numerous chances under Arteta (even starting ahead of Laca at times) and has been shockingly bad. I swear he steals a living as a footballer. Yes he has records at U-21...but some players never make the step up. His miss vs Everton and against Nottingham Forest - both could have given us a lead and maybe changed the outcome. How many times does he scuff a finish? I would be happy to never see him play for us again. If he is our hope, we are finished.

With all respect, I think you make a mistake in thinking there were only 2 options after Vlahovic turned us down - stick with what we have or panic buy.

The 3rd option (that most people with a plan have) is a contingency. Players are not products that you pay for and they are yours. The player has to agree to join too. So either we were arrogant/naive to think one of the hottest prospects in Europe would jump to join us.

Jonathan David, Patrick Schick (my 2nd choice behind Vlahovic), Luka Jovic or Isak - all those could have been lined up as alternates. Especially as Schick and Jovic were getable I think!

In the case of Aubameyang it would be very difficult to have a plan B because as far as I can see the issues with him only arose relatively recently , in December we didnt know we would have to replace him during the January window, the more pressing issue then was the midfield
