If you cast your mind back to January 2017. Diego Costa's head was turned by a big bucks offer from China.
Minus the massive transfer fee, where I doubt we may even recoup half the fee we've paid, I think the Lukaku interview fiasco will end the same way.
In the right team for him, I'm sure he scores his fair share of goals. Apart frm in the really big games of course. But I've never thought he was right for Chelsea.
First time round, even when he did get some games, I thought he looked like a Rabbit caught in headlights.
This time round I just don't think his game suits how Tuchel wants to play. Is that down to the player or the manager?
Perhaps it's both because (especially without Reece and Chilly) Tuchel does appear to not have much in the way of a "Plan B" - which is now becoming an age old argument with quite a few Chelsea coaches.
I know the club has played a lot of matches, I know we've had some injuries to key players. But at one stage we were something like 7 points ahead of City, now we're 13 behind.
You could argue that we're where we should be in the table. But a turn around of 20 points?
I'd find it easier to accept if they were always 13 points in front. But this turn around for me shows how woeful we've been up front. And particularly a man who cost almost £100m and was meant to be the answer to our goal scoring problems. A man who claims we're his boyhood club.
What do you think we should do with Lukaku in the Summer? Stick or twist?
As someone who was against his return, his form whilst "fit" and that interview make it too easy for me to say sell him. But yet again, we'd be writing off a lot of money. And you just know he goes and scores lots for his next team. Which our fans would then use that as a stick to beat the club with.
Our transfers in this coming window does need to be right, or again we'll be looking for a new manager.
The turn around in our fortunes is such now, that if someone said "I can guarantee you here and now, you win the League Cup and finish 3rd and that 13 point gap does not increase..." I would accept it in a heartbeat.
My own view on Lukaku

Don't worry, you'll be able to offload him to Everton in the summer.

Didnt think he was good enough when we sold him first time.
Didint think he was good enough in Italy.
Always said worth a punt at 50million in these crazy inflated prices - 100million was a knee jerk cos we couldnt get Haaland and Milan were laughing all the way to the bank
"He's not as silky as say, Kane so some will never like his style, he looks clumsy often tbh. But he's quicker, stronger and better in the air, which has it's uses."
Who are you talking about as Rom has never really been any of these things.
Funny thing is we look at his size and will think he beats a load of defenders for strength and headers...........the reality is he doesnt. Hold up play is awful and usually ends up bouncing to oppisition or he stands there waiting for it and someone gets in front of him, he is terrible in the air for the most part he loses the majority of headers he goes for in a game and pretty certain he is on 0% headers won outside of the 18 yard box when he should be knocking the ball on or holding it up, he falls over from the merest touch and gets bullied by 5 foot five defenders every game.
Take whatever we can get for him

Scored a world-class header yesterday mind... A header he should probably never have got at
But yes... Unless he suddenly turns a corner in the next 3-months

This is it though Sheriff, he does well for 10 seconds and people give him a bye for some reason, and also big disagree re yesterday, was a good header that strikers should be going for and quite a few will win, certainly not world class imo.

If he had a 10 seconds every game that resulted in a goal like that yesterday I would let it go to be honest

True......but he doesn't, it's 1 in half a dozen at best, and then usually not against anyone of note (though yes I know those lower league opposition have been causing us an issue )
