Pogba

Rumours that he would be interested in staying in England and joining a different club on a free.

Would be a disaster if this happened. You just know he would tear it up.

It’s weird people deny the racism towards Pogba. It’s blatant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
probably is, but you cant know who is being racist just because they dont like pogba.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you can on most occasions.

I heard Neil Warnock the other day on talksport pretty much saying that the main issue with this United team is the influence that Pogba has on younger players, and that the bad aspects of the team are a reflection of Pogba.

You really have to question what on Earth leads someone to come come such an absurd conclusion, and it only leads you to one answer.

I'm not for a minute accusing Warnock of not liking black people. But there is definitely some subconscious stereotyping going on there.

I have no problem with people pointing out his flaws in his game (as, to be fair, is all that Stretty or whoever he is has done here). But its all the other unfounded nonsense where you question the motive.

As it goes I couldn't care less about his instagrams, his haircuts, his gadgets and his whatchamacallits. What he does away from the pitch isn't relevant. Unless he's not taking care of himself which I have no reason to believe he isn't. Its simply a what he does on the pitch thing.

Probably his perceived attitude (yes perceived as from what I can tell he puts in the effort training). ,

That's nonsense because most people rate raheem sterling highly

DDD - read your posts with interest.

I don't watch Utd or Pogba nearly regularly enough to have a rounded opinion, a few games a year and match of the day will only show so much.

You've given some surprisingly positive statistics (the Lampard one especially) but the prevailing opinion of Pogba appears to be that he's been a disappointing signing. I'm not talking rival fans here but football pundits, journalists and Utd fans.

Why to you believe that is? Do the stats paper over performances or does expectation (or perhaps public perception of the player) distract from the performances?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
i don't even read my own posts with much interest, so good that someone at least pays attention.

in my opinion it is 3 things:

1) the price tag - even today people complain that pogba hasn't "single handedly" dragged us to success, as if a £90m transfer means that he and he alone will drag you to a league title. united fans do sometimes seem stuck in a weird glorification mode, where all managers are compared to saf, fernandes gets compared to cantona, everyone's just desperate for a saviour, rather than being concerned with building a functioning team in which every player has a defined role. pogba hasn't single handedly done that, so he's been "sh!t"

2) united haven't done much for 8 years now, so all players are resented to a certain degree, whereas all players from 10-20 years ago are placed on a pedestal (let's call this the o'shea effect). even when we do win stuff - pogba was player of the tournament, and scored in the final, when we won the europa league - no one cares, because it's not a big trophy

3) for far too many people he seems to epitomise everything wrong with modern football - hence the tedious comments about his hair, instagram, whatever. there are a hell of a lot of united fans who seem to really hate him - not disappointment, not resentment, but pure visceral hatred - because he appears to actually enjoy life, when presumably he should be self-flagellating until we win a major trophy. go and read what garth crooks says about him when naming him in his team of the week, there's an entire meme around that one. so far too many people cannot see beyond their hatred to assess him objectively - let's call this the neymar effect - which is one reason i rely so much on stats and things like whoscored, which at the very least are reasonably objective.

but this thread is a microcosm of his time here, it's genuinely depressing reading what people spout about him, and it is certainly quite easy to conclude that there is something about a black man having a good time that really riles some people.

Thanks for the response.

Think Red Russian's post earlier about the style not suiting Pogba chime most with the little I've seen. He seems to slow Utd down a little in terms of attack - allows defences to regroup a little. That's not necessarily a problem for him because he can spot a run, play a pass, find space - good movement will always be rewarded in football. But if his teammates aren't on the same wavelength it just looks like the attack has petered out.

For what it's worth I think he's just in the wrong team. Not club, he could be great for a different Utd team, but I don't think his teammates want to (/are capable of?) playing the football Pogba wants to.

Better than Lampard? Really? That surprises me considering how prolific Lampard was.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
it is actually true, though i will admit that this is taking lampard's entire pl career (ie including west ham and city). but excluding penalties:

pogba at united - goal/assist every 190 minutes
lampard at chelsea - goal/assist every 177 minutes

of current pl midfielders there is one, and one only, who has been more productive than pogba, and one, and one only, who has a higher average season rating on whoscored than pogba. he is also the same player who is the only midfielder to be more highly rated than pogba at the last 3 or 4 international tournaments, and that is de bruyne (though pogba was the higest rated at both the euros last year and the nations league finals).

When exactly did you first realise that you had feelings for Paul Pogba?

hilarious work. tbf if he didn't attract so much vitriol from supposed united fans i wouldn't have to waste my time defending a player who shouldn't really need defending.
