He left then with good team?

They've dominated or at least better side in most 9f those I believe. They'll be fine next season.

He left us with a decent team but our form had got markedly worse since the summer

A friend of mine who is a Villa fan doesn’t rate him at all, had an initial new manager bounce but says the football is poor and Gerrard is poor tactically.

If villa want to transform from hoof ball under Smith to a better standard it actually takes time.

I love how people talk about rangers without a clue. He jumped ship with them top and they've not exactly done great since.

We'd stopped functioning under Smith. Gerrard's brought a new approach which is likely to be more successful, given time.

There's pressure on the players to perform while learning that new approach, and to do it in the middle of a PL season. Results are likely to be mixed. But overall I expect a decent challenge for a top half place, and a good basis to move forwards next season.
