I, for One, Welcome Our Russian Overlords

Now the invasion has begun and the doomsday clock moves closer to midnight this will be the official survival article. When the nukes start flying, this will be the page you remember reading and thinking ‘I’m so glad Robb saved my life’.

1) Keep a supply of iodine pills as they will be essential.

2) Fill up your bathtub and sinks with as much water as possible as that will be your drinking water until you can get to a Tesco and take as much stuff as possible

3) Don’t look directly at the flash of the blast as you will get permanent retina damage

4) You’re actually pretty safe indoors (unless you’re in the epicentre as then you’ll be dust) as brick walls can shield you from the initial radioactive fallout. Stay indoors for the first 48 hours until the initial radioactive debris has stopped falling.

Continued…

A nuke could go off in Merseyside tomorrow night and Liverpool would still beat Leeds.

It’s a shame that Operation Unthinkable didn’t happen.

Patton was right after all. Had the Allies reorganized and launched an assault against the Soviets, we probably wouldn’t be dealing with this crap.

There wouldnt have been a Cold War.
There wouldnt have been a Korean War.

But hindsight is 20/20…and now we must deal with the reality of a country which will no doubt want to expand beyond Ukraine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Weren't we outnumbered about 3:1 by Soviet troops at the time?

Would have just led to even more unnecessary death.

Yep.. look at the number of dead on the eastern front in WW2.. the Soviets had endless troops and had already fought Germany to a standstill.

It would have been ridiculous, unless of course Poolmy is suggesting Russia should have been nuked.

Yesterday was very disturbing, and all the more so if you could could follow the speeches in Russian.

Putin's public address in the evening was horrifying. It ended with the declaration of recognising the independence of the breakaway regions but the ranting of the previous hour was essentially a declaration of war against Ukraine as a whole. He explicitly said that Ukraine isn't a proper sovereign country, that it came about as a result of historical mistakes, culminating in the break-up of Russian imperial territory at the end of the USSR. There were barely veiled threats at reversal of this state of affairs - and similar implications for all of the former republics of the Soviet Union. Of course, the speech was full of historical inaccuracies and bald lies (including the notion of 'genocide' at the hands of Ukraine and about the recent spate of proven false-flag actions).

What I found just as disturbing was Putin's public meeting with his security council earlier in the day. These are a bunch of really mediocre lackeys who have risen to the top specifically because of their lack of moral or intellectual qualities. Basically he made each of them get up and state whether they support the recognition of the 'rebel' (actually already Russian-controlled) territories. It was a very strange spectacle. Many of them were clearly uncomfortable. Putin had not stated his opinion and evidently many of them weren't sure what he wanted them to say. And what's more, he was clearly enjoying bullying and humiliating them. The head of the SVR (equivalent of MI6) was stuttering while Putin smirked and corrected him. This gave off a distinct vibe of a dictator who is increasingly isolated in his power and decision making. I'd be more comfortable if Russia were simply a brutal authoritarian oligarchy, because at least you can hope there's some constraint coming from the rational self-interest of the ruling class. Russia looks more and more like a dictatorship.

Blimey. That's not good

Cheers for the insight.

The EU's sanctions were more what I expected to see..

Well done to them.

This post should have been

1. But the SAS survival guide.

/End.

I have this book, from what I remember the specifics about a nuclear blast are a similar length to the section about fending a shark off when on a small raft - they suggest putting your head under the water and shouting loudly

I guess all the rest of it would likely help post blast though
