Liverpool v Leeds LIVE!

KO: 1945

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago, Jones, Diaz, Salah, Mane.

Subs: Kelleher, Konate, Milner, Keita, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino, Tsimikas, Origi.

Liverpool’s undefeated home Premier League (PL) record was put to the test against the unlikeliest of opponents last time out as they came from behind to beat Norwich 3-1. Hours after the rampant ‘Reds’ eighth successive victory in all competitions, league-leaders Manchester City lost to Tottenham, meaning a win here for Liverpool can close the gap at the top to just three points!

The league’s highest scorers (64) also own the best home defence in the league with just seven goals conceded. It’s therefore no surprise that Jürgen Klopp’s side has the most home wins by 2+ goals this PL campaign with eight, and having scored in each of the 15 competitive H2H matches with visitors Leeds United this century, they’ll be confident of adding further to that tally.

That makes the quest all the more daunting for Leeds, with the 3-0 loss in the reverse fixture being the 11th successive game without victory over their hosts (D3, L8). Their current 11-game streak this season has produced only two victories (D2, L7), and considering seven of these games saw the same half-time/full-time result, setting the tone early could be decisive.

With nine points less after 24 games than last season, teams seem to have worked out Leeds, bringing the style of influential coach Marco Biesla into question. Whether Biesla can change things at all remains in question, but they’ll be seeing the relegation zone approaching in the rear-view mirror if their form doesn’t improve soon. Anfield seems an unlikely place to start though, especially as the ‘Whites’ have conceded a league-high 29 away goals - including at least two in each of their last five away PL matches.

Players to watch: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah netted the opener in the reverse fixture, and has seen nine of his 14 PL goals scored since arrive after half-time, while Leeds' Raphinha has proven himself a big-game player, with his last three PL goals coming against opponents regarded to be in the PL’s ‘Big-6’.

Hot stat: No team in Europe’s big-five leagues has a better goal difference from the 76th minute onwards than Liverpool’s +12.

We should be giving Klopp a blank cheque to stay after 2024. Any amount of money would be worth it

It’s nothing to do with money though….

Throw enough money at him, he'll stay.

No I know, it's because he doesn't want to be here beyond 2024 but nobody is turning down 20m a year for example.

I’m not saying it’s impossible that he stays, but when you see what he’s said it looks like he’s made a promise to his family, and he’s already been given a stay of execution on that front. So basically it looks like it’s down to his missus. He’s already earned more than he could ever spend, that’s why I say it’s nothing to do with money.

Jones deserved a goal, got a standing ovation. Diaz too, my word what a player - he’s only been with us a few weeks!

abysmal abuse for jones on here last night. Crazy.

Thaigo and diaz were sensational all night. Salah did his usual unplayable game esp after that fool took out fabinho in a nohting area of the park.

Jone built confidence and was playing quite well imo. deserved applause for a lad who only just turned 21 (30th January)

Think Jones didn’t start very well, looked a bit rusty but as the game went on he really grew into it and actually had a very good game.

Was a superb game but let’s be clear. Leeds are utter crap and deserve to be where they are.

Thankfully Jnr and I were in the ground for Matips goal. Such a lovely casual finish too. I think Robbo and even Hendo could get some hints from him.

If De Bruyne made that through ball to Henderson last night it would all over the football news. He's sometimes a bit slow with decision making but he's a young player, important squad player imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah and that decision making will come with experience. I do wonder if he was in a lesser team that it would even be brought up? It’s just that he’s surrounded by players with such quick minds and feet that even the slightest hesitation is noticeable.
