What is Rapha worth?

No, not on today's performance, when he was awful, but if we get relegated.

He has a release clause in his contract apparently, if we stay up his release clause is 75m Euros (£62.4m), if we are relegated, it falls to 25m Euros (£20.8m).

I am not up on how a release clause works, I would assume that if only one team comes in for a player then the £20.8m would buy them but if there is a bidding war the market decides the value and the release clause then is irrelevant. If this isn't the case please correct me.

If we get relegated because of his release clause, could we lose us £42m?

I don't think this is why his form has dropped so badly but it does make you wonder, is this the reason why he didn't renew his contract?

Think release clauses work in a way that any club that matches it can speak to the player and it’s just then down to the player to decide where to go to

So, if relegated, we could lose the £40m?

Yea I think so, can only guess Raphinha would have his pick of a dozen top European clubs if he was available for £20m

The people ghat run the club are staring huge losses in the face because they sat on their hands. Shame. Glad its not my money they gambled on.

The release clause is an unverified report, though. Phil Hay has said in the past that Raph has no release clause in his contract. That contradicts what I have seen from one (not very reliable) Twitter account.

I'd put about as much stock in it as I do Batty.

It doesn’t seem very ethical, a player could deliberately play that to their advantage. I’d say he’s worth £50m minimum and he’d look good with better players around him.

Hope Leeds stay up and hope the deluded blues go down. Newcastle and Burnely are on a good run and moving up in the table. Norwich wining two games and then a draw then expected defeats against Man City and Liverpool. So they are also capable of moving up. Watford not doing well but may be Hodgson experience can pull them out. Unfortunately, it's not looking good for Leeds especially with injuries to key players.

Look on the bright side. We could use that £20m to pay for a potential Augustine transfer settlement + legal costs and end up net zero.

Some might say Raphinha would be a fool to renew his contract when it could result in him playing in the Championship next season. It seems the most obvious reason for him not renewing. As for his drop in form, all players go through that but with Rapha, there is an air of nonchalance (or is that just me?). It creates a massive dilemma for Bielsa, too – do you drop a badly underperforming player when you know he can pull a piece of game-winning magic out of thin air? I'd love to know what's going on behind the scenes and in the dressing room – how bad is morale and who's not getting on with whom? As I've just implied on another post, this all emanates from the absence of our backbone trio – Phillips, Bamford and Cooper. Come back soon guys, we need you.

I have to admit I have been really surprised by how badly he has gone off the boil. I suppose he did not sign up for a relegation battle and getting battered every week but even so I expected a bit more fight and determination from him.

You can see he is a quality player but you find out a lot about a player when the going gets tough

Yes, according to reports our heads dropped late in the match, with disastrous consequences. Have we got a squad of fighters, like Burnley, or are we as fragile of mind as we are of body?
