Tough game and great to get a result but you've got to wonder what Xhaka is doing half the time, one moment he's playing left back another time he's playing as a striker closing their defence down, how about just playing next to Partey and give the defenders options to pass the ball into midfield far to many times they are on the ball and don't have any options and it's asking a lot of Partey to hold it all together in there. If Arteta is telling him to do that then you've got to ask questions, just stick to the middle of the park it will help the team.

I haven't been on this site for awhile, and articles like this are the reason. He was brilliant tonight. Just what IS the point of slagging off good Arsenal players, and particularly spending your time composing a thoroughly barking mad article when said player has had a great game? Some people baffle me,they really do. I'm going back to planet Earth now,cos this alternative universe makes no sense at all

Isn't that the point of this site people share opinions you might not agree with it but it's fun to engage with people and after all if we all thought the same life would be boring.

You clearly don't understand the game. We were pushing for a goal so occasionally when an opportunity arises someone will sit back, perhaps Odegaard, and a midfielder or defender will be further forward than usual and try and make something happen offensively.
Vieira and Petit used to take turns holding the fort with one further forward back in the day.
I've no issue with Xhaka or anyone else using their initiative occasionally and playing out of their normal position if a promising situation arises.
Partey and Xhaka were excellent in the second half yesterday. If you don't rate a player then fair enough but try and analyse a game objectively.

Xhaka was positioned further forward in CM, and Wolves were exploiting that space for counter attacks the entire game. In fact it was their only out ball that broke up our attempts to build up pressure. If it weren't for a great save by Ramsdale (to be more accurate, his backside) we would have lost that game from an attack from exactly that position. We took full control after Tierney was injured and Xhaka went wider to cover left back. Saka came into that space and his shot, goalkeepers parry, set up our winner.
I don't think Xhaka has the pace to do what Arteta is asking of him. But I can understand why Arteta is doing that to stop what happened against Liverpool where Xhaka is asked to defend one on one to cover for Tierney where he has problems as well because again a lack of pace.
Obviously Xhaka is experienced and very good at linking play so Arteta wants that in the team just like Emery and Wenger did. Unfortunately he not built for the premier league and never has been.

Gets the ball holds it, waits for the defence to get back, plays a pass out wide.
Most fans: He did really well to retain possession and play a pass, good game.
Me: He has allowed the defence to get back and organised AGAIN and played a ball out wide that they can cope with when we had them under pressure before he got the ball.

He didn't do that yesterday though

I didn't think Xhaka was all that bad yesterday...

Would you be saying the same thing if Wolves had scored on 48 minutes when Podence was unmarked when he played the ball to Hwang?

Xhaka been asked to play further forward as let's face it his passing is better than Partey. Looks like we trying to give Partey more defensive responsibility and he has the pace and power to win battles.

I didn't say he was perfect. I said I did think he was that bad. Besides, it's not as if he was the only person playing. Sure, there were deficiencies but there were also other players on the field.
