This is a question that's open to debate.
Personally, I have never been a big fan of Paul Connolly, but his inclusion seemed to balance the defence much better. In the first half we missed a hat-full of chances due mainly to desperate defending, but because of this we seemed nervous in the second half, as if the team expected to conceed.
Having finally gained a clean sheet, this may well give the rest of the team more confidence to close out games, providing SG sticks with the same back four and doesn't tinker about with the formation.
In my mind, the clean sheet was the most pleasing aspect of Saturday and the three points were a bonus.
Clean Sheet or Three Points??

Connolly isnt very good
..............
Compared to who? Compared to previous right backs we've had or others in this league.

LSB - I know where you are coming from, points make prizes etc. But we can't always rely on the "We'll score more than you" philosophy. As Saturday proved, sometimes luck deserts you in front of goal, and if we continued to leak goals, this only undermines confidence.
If we can now go 2 or 3 games without conceeding, it can only be for the benefit of team morale.

Clean sheets builds confidence, but ultimately the aim is always to score one more than the opposition. Which ever way you cut it, Saturday was just a good result all round. In SG we trust. MOT

3 points, that's all that matters.

I rate Connolly, last season he was a hugely consistent player. His experience is vital in a young defence like ours.

3 points is far more important than the clean sheet.
Defence is still not sorted, same old amateurish defending on Saturday but we held out for the points.
I hoep Grayson lets this back 5 now try and prove itself over a few games without more chopping and changing.

The whole balance of the side looked much better on Saturday.
Proper full backs supported by players in their correct positions - it's amazing what effect it has!!
I thought White had a great game, and Snoddy seemed more up for it - perhaps he didn't have to continually worry about supporting Lees?
As for the clean sheet, 3 points debate. Who cares - clean sheets with a win are ideal. If we'd only kept a few more clean sheets last season, we'd have been in the playoffs at least. This season, i reckon but for some defensive nightmares we'd be top 3.

Completley and 100% disagree with this comment. He was the only defender last year that could hold his head up and say, i performed well. He is a real 7/10 every week (i have said this countless times). Does nothing silly and nothing special. Thats maybe why people don't notice him or pay him any attention. He attacks well and is solid in defence.
Thought he brought excellent balance to the team on saturday. He also has a great understanding with Snoddy, they appear to play well together.
