The first thing Roman did was write a cheque for 80mil to keep Chelsea out of administration so I think it's safe to say that the money required to buy the players needed to win the trophies that were being won in the years leading up to his takeover was bankrupting them.

Had he not stepped in when he did they would have done a Portsmouth/Leeds. Even then they were being run as if they were a rich man's play thing but at that point they didn't have the rich man.

You think RA was the only bidder for Chelsea back then ? Right now Chelsea are said to have 200 interested parties wanting to purchase them. There are 5 or 6 very credible potential owners in there. Chelsea will never be short of buyers due to our history and location. Comparing us with Portsmouth is chalk and cheese.

Well said Bov, it’s a lazy, biased assertion. Chelsea will always score heavily over location when compared to Spurs. I for one am not remotely surprised that there are so many different interested parties from all parts of the Globe wanting to buy us, I would have been more surprised if there wasn’t tbh.

Difference is Spurs can pay their borrowed money back, and it has gone into an investment, a new stadium. Chelsea borrowed money to try to win a couple of trophies. Chelsea had to go out with the begging bowl, because they had no way of paying it back, and would have gone under, had the blood money not arrived in the nick of time.
