R.I.P. Andy Lochhead

I’m deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former centre-forward Andrew Lochhead, a great striker in the short time he was with us.

He was one of the best headers of the ball and stood up like a brick wall to anything that was thrown at him. I’ll forgive him for his miss in the Cup Final because he more than made up for it when he was in form.

R.I.P.

Sad news indeed. Your thoughts echoed Downsouf.

Hard but fair I would describe him as warwick.

Another hero passes.

I remember being excited when we signed him, as he'd been such a key part of Harry Potts' successful Burnley side and seemed to epitomise what a centre forward (of that era) should be – big*, strong, good in the air.

He'll be keeping the centre backs busy in Vallhalla.

*surprised to learn he wasn't quite 6ft, he looked massive.

Before my time slightly but sad news indeed.

It seems he was a key figure in that team.

RIP.

I remember him playing for Villa in the early 1970s, let's say an uncompromising forward in the Joe Jordan mould? Good header of the ball for sure.
Sad to hear of his passing.

Yes remember him well.
Old fashioned type centre forward complete with comb over hair cut I think.
Remember being so upset with his miss in 69 cup final, but seems so long ago now and he was a totally honest and committed player.
Sad loss.

Sad news - a real tough guy up front & a talented header of the hard leather ball - I remember a fellow City fan telling me he met Andy the day after a tough encounter at home and he’d shown him all the cuts & scars all over his shins & calves. Like Downsouf says he had to battle for his goals - a true legend from the old days when men were men! Not certain until I check my Fossils & Foxes, but I think he scored the winner at Anfield in the FA Cup quarter-final in ‘69 - with his head of course!! R,I.P.

Having just checked I find it was the 5th round winner he scored at Anfield not the Quarter final so my memory isn’t what it was

Cheers Vulpes - thanks for that - happy days! I may have got the the match round details wrong but I well remember the night when Andy broke the hearts of the Liverpool fans with a towering header to silence the Kop. Let's hope for a similar result at Old Trafford on Saturday
