DPL v Wycombe

The only encouraging thing I can think of mentioning is that playing away to a good team has previously produced wins against all sensible expectations. I could also mention that I have never seen us win there and that we have always lost when we probably didn’t deserve to. So as I won’t be going this year for obvious reasons perhaps that might be a good influence too.

This has been designated by Akinfenwa as his special swansong match, seemingly regarding his short, yet successful spell with Rovers as the launch of his league career. It was towards the end of a season and I seem to remember that Dave Penny released him because he would not move north. He is probably the best known easily-recognised footballer in the lower leagues with a uniquely successful style.

Despite previous unlikely results from such fixtures I think it would require a miracle for us to avoid defeat this time, so 3-0 to the furniture manufacturers and chairio to Mr A.

They could easily donate 3.33 % of their shares each to a new director of football as an incentive to get a good candidate.

VSC own a few shares so they could in theory put forward new proposals at the next agm. Though they would always be out voted. However it might send a message at least.

When Baldwin is criticised, significant numbers of fans rush to his defence often implying that he has little influence on the Board as a whole, yet he is supposed to be the day-to-day "boss". I am not sure whether I believe this, but if it is true his shareholding is not decisive.

However if the HoFO is to have value, those in power will have to take notice of him and having a directorship with or without shares will not be important.

The title may be important though, even if no shares are included in the remuneration. Having a title of "Director" rather than "Head of" indicates a level of seniority that may or may not mean something internally but looks better on the CV when it's time to apply for the next job and therefore may encourage applications from more experienced contenders. Anyway, whatever the title, let's hope that the club get both the structure and the recruitment right and that we get ourselves in better shape to face next season. Hard to believe that is only 16 months since we had real momentum behind us and that we were just 1 win away from going top of League 1 and on a roll towards promotion.

You could argue Crazy that “Head of” puts the person above everyone else and that is about as high as you can go in the footballing side of Club Doncaster, but the proof of the pudding…

If you are going to appoint someone to this kind of role it wouldn’t make sense to ignore their advice; perhaps you might want to modify things a little at Board level and finance would be a concern, but the way Bramall and co talk suggests that they are always business-like in their consideration if perhaps somewhat conservative.

Overall it appears a sound idea but something they should have done over 12 mths ago. Sounds like they've already got someone lined up but on past experience the appointment process degenerates into a shambles.

Who would you like to see in the role? Nigel Adkins for me.

Adkins is a sensible fellow, so yes, he seems to be well qualified. I do hope that they don’t just sit back and expect an ideal candidate to apply.

The first requirement should be how well they get on and can work with GM. Thats if he’s to continue as manager which I suspect is true.

I like GM as a man and he does not seem to be the kind of person who would be difficult to get on with, although I expect he would want reasoned advice. But if it is a question of who is in charge, that would be for those above to decide, although the right person ought to be naturally respected. Hopefully there will be no conflict.
