Considering their probable resources, Shrewsbury have achieved a great deal more than Rovers this season. Steve Cotterill has had a long managerial career with quite a lot of failures along the way, but despite his own serious Covid absence, he rescued them from likely relegation in 2020/21 and has sustained their League 1 status comfortably this term.
You cannot help but smile when you read that Knoyle believes that “we just have to fine tune a few things". I fear that this belief that everything is only a touch away from being entirely satisfactory rather limits the extent to which the entire team over-estimate their strength and underestimate the degree of improvement needed.
Anyway, back to reality and to me results suggest that our opponents are well organised and I expect they will be too much for us there tomorrow.
2-0 to them.

Down with a whimper already!

Not good enough in defence, not good enough in mid field, not good enough in attack. Marginal re goalkeeping. Apart from that weve done well.

I was going to predict 4-0 😕

Martin does not seem to have the beating of the right side of the Shrewsbury defence, so we have no attacking power. Smith flings himself around without much end product and Odubeko is running hard to see what he can pick up which so far is very little. Clayton and Rowe have not done much wrong, but the rest have made Shrewsbury look a class above them. They can challenge, pass the ball and run into space. We invariably wait for the ball to come and ignore the opposition as they move to intercept.
Williams and Olowu combine well to offer easy opportunities for any other team to score and have not disappointed today.

We just need to score 18 goals in the last 2 games. I'd be happier if it was really all over!

It may be a sour sort of comment, but this was more typical of the season than it may appear at first sight in that in the entire first half they were sloppy and incompetent in the basics, not to mention the lack of effort.
They showed what real commitment could achieve in the second and as professionals they should be feeling that they let themselves down.
It had a good deal in common with the Morecambe game.

Who would have bet on that at half time.
We just need to score 17 plus goals in the next two games now 😉

My memory isn't what it was. Am I right in thinking things started to go downhill after Gavin Baldwin became a 1/3 shareholder in Club Doncaster?

As you know, irrespective of Baldwin’s rise via his directorship, I really do believe that he has been chief decision-maker throughout the decline since Moore left. So he carries more responsibility than anyone.
It is the populist belief that McSheffery must go, but the players he signed did not coast through the first half yesterday and it was both Olowu and Williams who GM inherited from Wellens that failed in their jobs yesterday. In the second half (Rowe excepted) it was principally his signings that put together the fight-back.
Unless they can off-load the substandard players Wellens signed they will continue to drag the whole team down. How did he come to sign someone like Williams who is about as nimble as a super tanker and how can you be a centre half who can’t get up to make defensive headers when the ball is crossed like Olowu? They ought to be able to sue Wellens and Baldwin should resign out of shame.
Stuck with such a stock of players who have neither the skill or the commitment to be of value yet with no one to replace them, it is a millstone around GM’s neck.

I did not watch the game - I logged on to iFollow at half-time, saw the score and logged off! I've only just seen the highlights - for some reason, the highlight video would not play. I then remembered I'd switched my VPN, and when I switched if off, the video would play. So much for the wonderful world of computers. I'd been using Proton out of Switzerland for emails, and when my Norton VPN license expired switched to Proton's. I really like the security off the Proton services and will stick with it.
As far as the game, finally a little effort and passion in the second half. What did Gary say at half-time? However, many of the players still seemed slow and not really fully fit.
I do not know enough about the running of the club and who is really to blame, but poor player recruitment (and letting the wrong ones go?) has much to do with it. Last January there was some desperation, and in January one cannot get a good striker unless you spend a lot of money.
I've never thought much of Williams, but earlier I thought Olowu showed promise, but he has been poor in some recent games. At Shrewsbury two crosses into the box that gave them easy goals - perhaps if Anderson had been playing it might have been different.
I'll watch the last home game on Saturday and hope they play with freedom and spirit - they cannot stop relegation.
